BT ADSL problem

I have recently had an ADSL line activated from BT, but having major trouble getting it to work.

I have tried 2 different routers, both show the ADSL as synched but cannot get a WAN connection.

I'm fairly IT literate and have setup wireless networks before so pretty much know what I'm doing but really struggling here.

I have double checked the settings and userid and password provided match.

I'm using PPPoA, 0/38, VC-MUX and also changed it to use G.DMT.

Can anyone shed any light??

Cheers

Is the router showing an ip address? What are the logs on the router reporting?

The router does not pick up an IP address.
The logs dont show much, cant see it from here but something along the lines of ATM1 started, and thats about it.

No ip address means there is nothing you can do, log a call to your ISP as its a problem from their end. I take it you have the router to set ip address/details automatically?

Yes its set for obtain IP from ISP.

Have you checked the router stats for line attenuation and signal to noise ratio?

It's possible for the adsl line to sync but because of the poor quality connection it's not possible to log onto the WAN.

Yes I have:
SNR upstream 29db downstream 31db
line attenuation 23.5db up downstream 46db

Thats ok isnt it?

Yes thats good and time for a call to your ISP.

Ok, thanks for the help guys :)
Call placed with my employers helpdesk for them to chase with BT.
God knows how long that will take!

Can you not call the isp directly? They will want you to do various tests etc so all that will come back through the Helpdesk and take forever I should imagine.
