:wonder: when i bought my scoob she used to wind up then give you a great shove in the back, it felt like my neck was gonna snap, today though on way home she seems to be lacking in boost, in fact compared to how se was she feels gutless. boost before on guage was 20 psi max, now she struggles to go to half that, please anyone help:wonder: :wonder:

what year car is it?

boost solenoid sticking or wastegate problem maybe?

lunaticlegacy 01 October 2007 08:06 PM

its a 1993 legacy turbo, it has a blitz dump valve, that sounds to be churping away nicely but i can usually hear a lovely jet engine whine as she comes up to boost but its not there:wonder:

Are your tappets noisy at the moment? What has been done to it because if it's standard it shouldn't ever run anywhere near 20 psi.

Also get yourself over to UK Legacy Forums (Powered by Invision Power Board) ;)

yes my tappets are noisy, what is this telling me?

Paulo P 01 October 2007 09:10 PM

If your tappets are noisy the knock sensor can pick this up (as knock) and put the car into safe mode. You can move the knock sensor to the chargecooler bracket to test if it is that but obviously the sensor won't work as it should.

i have just spoken to the guy who works on it, the car has had 6k spent on the engine uprating most bits to sti spec and a bit more. i will get the tappits adjusted is it a huge job? thanks for your advice i really appreciate it.:notworthy

The tappets can't be adjusted because they are hydraulic :( to change them is an engine out job but at least they are cheap to buy.

is it possible to run her out of safe with tappets noisy and will it damage the engine?

[Davey] 02 October 2007 08:34 AM

What ever you do, dont even DREAM of buying any of that hydraulic lifter treatment crap they sell at motorfactors/halfords :)

Paulo P 02 October 2007 09:48 AM

It should be safe to run but noisy and in safe mode. Legacy's are bad for their tappets :(

What oil are you using in it? That makes a difference.
