Girl in need of help!!
Hi All,
My car is leaking oil quite considerably, think it might be the crankshaft seal, probably both, and where the oil is dripping onto the manifold the car is smoking, really doesn't look hot!! Plus i might need a 'knock'? sensor, Subaru quoted me £110!! Apparently mine is a JAP import, although doesn't state it on the logbook. Does anyone know where i can either get this sensor cheap, or where might be best to get the crank shaft seal done? Please help!! Thanks Gemma |
Where are you. I'm sure Scoobyclinic in Chesterfield would be able to deal with your probs. 01246 590807.

If you post a picture I am sure we may be able to tell you if it is a JAP import or not. This would be most beneficial information for you for future ownership of the car.
|
Haven't got a picture with me at the moment, i'm in work!! lol

if it turns out to be an import you will need to let your insurers know as imports tend to be a slightly different rate to uk cars.
|
Look at the VIN plate (metal plate, passenger side suspension turret) for the applied code (http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/wrx.html).
To answer your question though if you could post your general area then people can point you in the direction of your local good specialist. Rocker cover gaskets are known to go and drip oil. |
If the oil is going onto the mnaifold(s) its most likley the cam (no rockers on an EJ!) cover gaskets, which is a much cheaper and quicker job!
What year is your car and what badging on the rear? Simon |
It's only a 2.0l sport, no turbo :(!
And its a 1998, but doesn't state on the log book that it is an import or anything like that, maybe im just being blonde!??! |
If it's a sport I doubt it's an import very much... as said where about's in the country are you as there are good specialists spread about the place.
Also have a look on .:ImprezaSport.net:. loads of sport owners on there :thumb: No need to be paying dealer prices these days. |
An easy way to tell if you cars an import would be there the rear number plate is square, rather than rectangle. And you would probably have a red light on the bumper that looks out of place (foglight).
|
Also Jap cars normally come with flares in the passenger footwell (still have mine)
|
I'm based in bristol, i went to tiley's and thats who quoted me £110!!! I almost fainted!!
|
I paid £56+Vat for a knock sensor from CVC in Cardiff on my My99. WOrth checking with them.
