A worrying week coming up

As I've posted previously, I've gone for a job at Seal Graphics in Basildon, as a mechanical fitter, the interview couldn't of gone better and now they've offered me the job and got an appointment on Tuesday to see the Head Engineer.

I've worked at Calor for 9 1/2 years, and the thought of leaving a safe permanent job for a new role is scaring the cr@p out of me. In one hand, I'm glad to be leaving Calor, but at the same time don't want to leave.

I know the job at Seal has better prospects than Calor and is better for my career, but I'll be the new boy in a strange factory.:eek2:

FLAT ERIC 29 July 2007 10:24 PM

Good luck with your career move Paul.

It's always daunting knowing if you've done the right thing.

I am sure once you have settled in you will be fine.

Just don't mention your strange habits. :lol1:

Mark ;)

Hi Paul,

It's Natalie posting on Dave's login lol.

I know better than most how comfortable calor can be
but it's really not what it once was and to tell you the truth
i couldn't be happier now i'm out of there.:luxhello:

Once you get in a new job you see how bad calor is really:Suspiciou ,
i did.

Enjoy your new job you deserve it after 9 long years at calor.
It wont take long to settle you know your stuff
good luck to you.:thumb:

Natalie.

Don't you mean "strange boy in a new factory" :lol1:

Best of luck mate :thumb:

AllenJ 29 July 2007 10:33 PM

Congrats Paul.

It's always good to move out of one's comfort zone.
Peeps who stay within their comfort zone will never achieve more than they already have, but the few, like yourself ,who are bold enough to take risks can always aim for the sky.

Good luck and don't worry about a thing.

Go strut 'ya stuff' me ol' mucker !!!!!

Cornelius 29 July 2007 10:44 PM

Thanks all, feel a lot easier:D

Natalie, I know what you mean, the place is getting worse no 2 ways about it, hence getting out. I'm the second fitter to leave in a month, but I doubt they'll get the message and do anything about it!!

Cornelius 29 July 2007 10:46 PM

To be honest, Calor is getting that bad I started smoking, the job isn't stressful, it's just the people are!

SirFozzalot 29 July 2007 10:47 PM

Good luck mate! :thumb:

One of the bonuses of calor for you was it was only about 3 minutes from your house! :D

Not that Basildon is too far. :D

frayz 29 July 2007 10:48 PM

I asked after a different job this week too...

I must be nuts!!

Good luck Paul :thumb:

Good luck mate....

It's normal to feel like that, lol. You'll be fine :)

Andy-C 30 July 2007 08:03 AM

You don't need luck Paul, when you can do the job standing on your head.
In a couple of months you will wonder what all the fuss is about.

Enjoy mate :thumb:

good luck with the move Paul. Am thinking the same myself, have been at my firm 13years, feel like i need a new challenge....but we'll see.

Diesel_DC 30 July 2007 10:55 AM

Good Luck Paul

As everyone else has said sometimes you need to make a change, I have been at the same company for 20 years

But I look to move every 2-3 years internally to keep from becoming institutionalised and help[s to keep up the interest in going to work.

If the people you work with are beginning to grate on you then going to work becomes a chore rather than something you don't mind doing, then the hours days and weeks seem to take forever to pass.

WRX_Dazza 30 July 2007 11:55 AM

all the best Paul....

dont worry about it...

i contract and have to deal with new "users" (Losers) everyday...

just turn things around so THEY fit in with you and you wont go wrong!!!

good luck

Dazza :)

Good luck in the new job mate. You'll be fine :thumb:

Cornelius 30 July 2007 05:05 PM

Thanks everyone!

David, you're absolutely right, I do enjoy the actual job - part of my job is to design and build new machinery, and to modify existing machines to get the best out of them.
The problem is that I feel I'm being taken for granted, unfortunately for me, I can do every job - Driving 40ft lorries (shunting), forklifts, filling gas tankers, ordering enough gas for the daily demand, health and safety inspections, accident investigations and so I don't really know what I'm doing from one day to the next, if I refuse to do a job, then it's a disciplinary. I'm the most experienced person on the plant but Betts and I are on the same money yet I've got a lot more responsibilities and am more qualified.
I've put my views across to the management, and they can't see a problem so I feel this is my only other choice now.
I must be respected a little bit as it's shocked a few high up people, and they don't want me to go, but do understand my reasons

V4JDMSTi 30 July 2007 05:14 PM

are we still going to be able to get things like the intercooler deflectors made? ;)

i'm thinking i need a diff guard for the rally look to be taken that bit further! ;)

Cornelius 30 July 2007 05:24 PM

I won't be able to make them at work if I get the new job, but I do intend clearing my garage out once and for all so that I can get to my work bench and start projects in there.

To be honest, I have been having second thoughts about working on people's cars but I'll only get bored, so when I finally get sorted out, I'll be starting a new (part time) business with insurance, etc and doing things properly, ie invoicing etc.

I am looking into making a knock link type of warning system, got the display sorted out and working fine, now just got to get a knock sensor and connect it up

Supercue 30 July 2007 05:47 PM

Good luck Paul with the new job and your part-time work too:thumb:

Debs thought I was mad starting up on my own earlier this year and although I'm working harder than ever, I really enjoy my work and TBH I hadnt done that for a long while, so make the move and enjoy every day mate:cool:

PS

"Schhhhhhhhhhhhh"
If anyone needs a laptop let me know;)
