island991 05 February 2007 09:42 PM

should i take it to dealer or can you buy coolant somewhere??
any particular make etc?

WetPatch 05 February 2007 09:43 PM

err not sure tbh, mine has never run dry :) never had to fill mine. When was it last serviced?

island991 05 February 2007 09:44 PM

Probably due another 1 then so if uve been driving it much, the fact the coolent well is dry could indicate a bigger problem

Worth checking the header tank on top of the engine for level too...??

i always check that one first before the one in front of the battery.

I was on the understanding the one by the battery was an over flow res

That's correct. You need to check the header (expansion) tank (top, left centre of the engine) to make sure that is full. If you are running dry, or low, that is where it'll show & need to be topped up.

:)

cheers for this fella. panic over!! it is indeed an overflow type reservoir. i took it to the garage and the header tank was full to brim so not a problem, they put a little water in the anyway to top it up. (its a diluted solution anyway apparently so a little extra water is fine so i was told)

I remember my first car a rover 214sli twin cam , i never knew anything then and just kept topping it up with water.eventually my hoses corroded and caused my cambelt to snap somehow according to the guy who rebuilt my engine:wonder: so not too much water in there :norty:

Halfords and the like sell proper coolant. Far better than just sticking in some water.
