Clutch plus flywheel?

Answer needed for a friend please. She needs to replace the clutch on her scoob and wants to know if she automatically has to replace the fly wheel as well ? :(

This is what she was told by the garage bloke :Suspiciou

TIA

The flywheel should atleast be skimmed, but no need to replace the flywheel, unless it's damaged or you want a lightened one.

I changed mine to a lightened one when I had the clutch upgraded but that was my choice

You dont have to, unless its damaged or warped. But whilst you are replacing the clutch you might as well get a lightened flywheel installed as well (if you are going down the modification route)

What do you mean by "skimmed"? Why would you do this instead of replacing the flywheel...how would you know whether to skim or replace ?

TIA :)

Skimming the flywheel basically means getting rid of any 'hot-spots', making it as smooth as possible. This will help avoid any clutch judder when the new unit is fitted.
£50 to skim, £300+ for a new oe flywheel. :thumb:

on 300+bhp Scoobs, Once stripped due to slipping ;) most Flywheels I've seen do require either skimming or replacing ;)

A few years ago on my Old MY02STiPPP Dealer cost of OEM clutch kits and Flywheels was about £964 without Flywheel and £1457 with flywheel with.

Fitting an AP and lightened flywheel was £1000 from Non dealer. ;)

IMHO IIRC
