SHELL V-POWER 98RON OR TESCO SUPER 99 RON?
Ive been using shell since ive had my scooby but filled up with tesco super today cos i was in meir heath and needed to fill up fast,£40 worth smeemed to run nice. |
hi, i think shell v power is 99 ron ! but never tried tescos 99 as no garages do it round where i live.:)
|
I use Tesco 99Ron and the scoob runs fine, but I would use Shell V power if there was one closer as it felt smoother.
|
I use 99ron from Tesco, I havent had any problems, seems to run very well for me, and it's easy on the pocket.:D
Cost 90.5 in Tesco |
you might be right? optimax was 98, BP do an ultima 106 but thats in london somwhere it was in fastcar
|

Round my way in Kent, V-Power is 92.9p and Tesco 99ron is 90.9p.
|
Always use Tesco 99ron :D
|
89.9p
|
yes i knew it was expensive, but they dont have it in bolton,i paid 89 for the tesco but that was in meir heath stoke on trent.
|
Been using Tesco 99 but currently have V-Power in the tank, can honestly say I haven't noticed any difference so I'll be using Tesco from now on as it's cheaper.
:D :thumb: |
same price in northampton so i use the shell v power

Although the Tesco 99 is giving good results and to the fact that some people are are choosing that as their petrol of choice, myself personally it's V Power.
For me the difference is this: V Power, like Optimax before it, has been designed from the ground up as a performance fuel. You could almost say that it bespoke in that way when looking at the Tesco option. That is because Tesco 99 is basically 95RON petrol with bio-ethanol additives to make the required RON grade. Even though the two are both quoted as being the same octane, they will have different burn characteristics and different calorific values which are what counts for the mapper when he's trying to dial in some extra ignition and avoid knock of any sort. It's the better option technically, so to speak. Oh and Optimax was found to be on average 98.6RON, so there's a good chance the same could apply to V Power, so maybe you could get close to 100RON on a good batch. But as said, other people prefer Tesco. I am V Power fan, and an Optimax one before that :D It does my JDM well ;) |
mine runs the same no matter which one i put in.
|
It's all bollocks. You can't tell the difference.
If you could, there wouldn't be so many scoobs needing bottom end rebuilds. :Suspiciou |
It all comes from the same refineries. I'm pretty sure tesco dont have their own :Suspiciou
I use Shell because i go past one every day. If it were a Tesco I'd use that. |
Exactly, very little difference in them. Remember seeing a rolling road test with bikes where they ran supermarket and optimax super through a fireblade. The optimax gave an extra 0.5hp and about 14,000rpm so to get any benefit you had to be screaming the nuts off it.
Also the "average" thing is important with optimax. It degrades in storage because it isn't that stable so there is no quoted RON rating on the pumps. Yes if you get a fresh batch it could be nearer 100 but you are just as likely to get something at 97 too. m. |
Shell 95Ron :thumb:
Did you know you can inherit Plusponts? Think of your kids when you write your next will ;) |
Shell for me, I've always ran the car on Shell (4 Years of scooby ownership). Optimax and now V power. They have cleaning chemicals which is always good for the inside of the engine.
The cars mapped for it and you get Pluspoints. One downside is the exhuast seems to get blacker!!! |

I use Shell because i go past one every day. If it were a Tesco I'd use that. Wrong. Optimax/V-power is made in one location. Then shipped from there. |
I think he was refering to tesco 99 and shell v-power being made at different refineries. Ofcourse optimax/v-power is made at one location.
|
I use Tesco and think its brilliant, no problems at all.
The last couple of times I have put V-Power in the car seems to boost strangley, goes up to 16psi, then straight back down to 10 spi, then back up to 16 psi before settling at 14psi. But that could be because the ECU has learn't to run on Tesco. Personally I prefer it, it works well and is cheaper, plus you get those really useful Clubcard points;) Damo |

I use either. I do prefer the V-Power becuase of the way that it is meant to help clean and protect the engine. See below:

I used to use V Power but now i usually use Sainsburys Super, i can honnestly say i can tell no difference and at 87.9 its a lot cheaper.
|
I only ever use V-power. I tried a few different fuels such as tescos 99 and bp ultimate and both didn't seen to pull aswell at the top of the rev range as v-power does. I also drive a fair bit with my mate who has an rx7. On the same fuel there is nothing between us, however when one of us is not on V-power, the other who is running on it always has the edge. Tesco's by my opinion has the worst results.
