APS Air Intake? Tuning Advice

Im looking for an APS air intake system, does anyone know where I can get one for my MY99 classic, looked on the G-Force website and they only have them for the new age impreza!

Anyone any ideas?

:)

Gav 09 January 2007 11:02 AM

think wrc tech do them. Not sure but i think i remember a thread a while back saying they were stopping making them for the classics!

scruffygrey 09 January 2007 11:07 AM

I have a brand new / unused or fitted one for sale.
Bought to fit a 97 Classic - gets air from under the wheel arch, BUT couldn't fit it as the pipework for the FMIC got in the way.

PM me with an offer.

If fitting an APS CAK be aware that you should have your MAF Sensor rescaled, or better still a remap, before driving the car hard. If this is not done you run the risk of engine damage as a result of weak AFRs.

terence 12 January 2007 09:51 AM

Ya, im booked in for a remap with Andy Forrest in Feb just trying to locate one before!

Looks like the APS is out as DS Auto dont expect any stock until end of Feb...

Soo looking for a K&N Typhoon now if anyone knows where I can find one! Similar problem again, having difficulties tracking down a supplier for the classic model! Can find lots of places selling them for the newage!

Shame about the APS, good bit of kit.

A lot of people should stock them. try revolution for one. I've also seen them on eBay. You should have no problem getting one...

still having no luck :(

i mite run out of time before my remap!

i do have a simota panel filter from Scooby World, would i be better sticking with OEM airbox and using the simota as opposed to an APS or Typhoon does anyone think?

harvey 16 January 2007 06:06 PM

I know from actual results achieved that the O/E air box with Subaru panel filter and the snorkle in place is good for over 350 bhp before it becomes a constraint, possibly a good bit more than the 350 figure I have experience of. This is on Classic cars. I think it is even more on New Age cars.

Hyperflow do a system similar to the APS CAK, I believe and I understand their UK distributors are AET Turbos, Normanton, West Yorks. They may stock these if you are sure you want one. Speak to Andy or Grant.

il have a look into that, cheers m8!

wel... im aiming for anything 320-330bhp, Andy F recommended to get a K&N Typhoon or APS or STi 7/8 TMIC Air Intake to stand a better chance of achieving this.

Im just wondering if i should forget the APS / K&N idea and leave the OEM box with my Simota Panel Filter as im not aiming for anything over 320-330!

Does that sound ok?

GazTheHat 17 January 2007 12:28 PM

I went from the same setup you have now, to the one you've been recommended and it did the trick. :) (albeit on a newage)

Recommended by the same person too. :thumb:

Didn't know you could get a K&N Typhoon for classics.

I was told to get the massive Roger Clark Motoraport one when I was gettin my remap done but found a second hand APS, but will be upgrading to the RCM one when I get my next lot of mods, just another suggestion.

terence 18 January 2007 09:40 AM

Just had a look at the Roger Clarl one!

Never seen this before, as anyone tried it / can recommend it?

Out of interest, you were told the RCMS was an upgrade on the APS one?

The 80mm RCMS one is highly regarded. I would also fit a cold air feed though, as this induction kit sits in the engine bay, sourcing hot air from there.

Whereas the other two kits are in the inner wing.

terence 18 January 2007 02:09 PM

Ya thought as much... where could i find a cold air feed to pair up to the RCMS one?

There's lots to choose from. Do a search, i asked the same thing a couple of weeks ago.

1) Pipercross
2) Chargespeed
3) Subaru Fog Duct
etc

You can buy the ducting. #1's ducting does not reach to the engine bay though. But was perfect for CAK's.

Try B&Q! boiler flexi pipe is about £7 IIRC. Just need to secure it to the wedge on the front bumper.

Shown on my car with a RCM induction kit as well, it sits nicely in the hole left after air box removal.

I was told that after 400 BHP the APS kit becomes very restrictive and power above this is harder to achieve, only what I had been advised tho so please don't slate me!!

Chris

Andy.F 19 January 2007 10:19 AM

APS recommend it for use with their 550bhp turbo. I doubt they would want to strangle their own turbo ?

Here is a link to a new age car running 11.5 sec at 122mph on an APS cold air kit, to do that time on a new age that requires at least 500bhp in my opinion.

500+bhp on APS Cold Air Kit
