Who runs big brake kits here.
 

Fully aware they are great for the track and fast road use, but what are they like for normal day to day driving.

Do they need to be suitably heated up before giving a good bite.

Sorry if silly question but have no experience with these, and will be needed some soon :norty:

Mrs spec'c' has AP 6 pots and they are fine for general use, altho im sure that depends on which pads are used...

For what you intend using them for id say a set of STI brembos would be more than capable of meeting your requirements.

Heatup depends on pad choice but other than that they are the same as any other stoppers.

If you want bling and expensive pads then go for an AP 6 pot kit. If you want the best for track then go for an AP 4 pot kit. Belive it or not the 4 pot is a better caliper than the 6. The 6 was designed for road use and isnt as rigid as the 4. also bare in mind the pads for the 6 pot are over £100 more expensive than that of the 4s.

For value for money id say STI brembos all day. You will have to really go some before you outgrow them.

Bling is nice though :)

The 6 pots seem to work out quite a bit cheaper than the 4's though.

Oh yes they look damm cool dont get me wrong.. where have you found them cheaper and at what price may i ask mate..

Sorry got mixed up there, ther BIGGER 6 pots are cheaper than the smaller 6 pots.

HAvent got a proper price yet (too scared:D )

TBH mate most places will be the same price.. AP brakes are AP brakes.

Also have you given any thought to what you want the car for.. if you will be spending alot of time on track, have you thought what wheels/tyres you will be running? 355mm wont fit under 17s, 330s will.

I will be running 17s on track and 18s on the road.
So if ever i decided to go up the AP route chances are it would be the 330mm kit.

Its all up to you mate im just giving you your options

Will be going up to 18's this year so the bigger kit for me.

I've got Compbrake big brake conversion, came with ally bells, fitting kit, huge 4 pot calipers and 330mm disks, with hawk performance pads, they work fine when cold, but a hell of a lot better when hot! but will be changing the pads for Ferrodo DS2500 soon, kit came i at about £700, well worth the money, never had any brake fade and the stopping power is suberb!!

Also changed to Goodridge stainless steel braided hoses and using dot 5.1 fluid

Im running the godspeed set up , Brembo 4 pot calipers & 330mm Disks iirc , Little bit dodgyy from very cold , But after a couple of miles are fine think i have have Ferodo DS2500 Pads fitted

Yes mate sure is & Makes the new ones alot cheaper , You will have scooby owners of pre 98 Cars knocking your door down , They are a direct replacement for the old oe 2 pots

Do you have a part number for the Ferrodo pads? I couldn't find a comparable pad and the hawkes runied my alloys....
Plus i couldn't stand the noise of the compbrake kit. the pads rattle like mad. plus the disk wear is excessive....

I'm running 4 Pot Brembo with Red Dot disk (355mm IIRC), also have 5.1 DOT fluid with the Goodridge stanless steel hoses.

There was a group by years back, everything supplied (by Red Dot) & fitted (by Extreme) came in at £900

Still got the Ferrodo's from you mate;) the original Hawks are still on the car and braking is fine!! when I service the car, the Mocal oil cooler is going on and will be changing to the DS2500
