Best bet is to contact the DVLA and speak to someone about it. Ask them what they want to be able to register the car.

Is the car a recent import or has it been in the country for a while?

I would try to contact the original Importers of the car to see if they can give you an authentication letter.

Can I ask why did you send the DVLA a photocopy of the original log book? You have to send off the full log book for them to send you a new one with your details, or did you mean the Japanese log book?

A few more details on the situation would be needed for anyone to give you proper advice but I would definately ask the DVLA what they need to register the car, and whoever you speak to, get their name and dept they work in!

Your certificate of de-reg and translation is all you need; along with your customs 389. You need to speak to someone at your local VRO who knows what he is doing.

"Photocopy of Jap log book" wont help anyone trying to help you; theres no such thing as a 'Jap log book'. What exactly do you have?

Docs

I have a C&E 386 & KFV/61a cancellation of registration doc. The photocopy show old reg last owner chassis make model ect, thats why i assumed it was a log book. I has a round stap with transport Department on it, same as de reg doc.

All youll need at the VRO, beyond a bloke who knows his arse from his elbow (there will be someone there who will): is the original de-reg and translation and the C386 (and an MOT).

DO you sugest Manchester VRO then?

GC8 13 December 2006 07:59 PM

I only really know Sheffield, but assuming you have the C386 and the de-reg then you shouldnt have a problem. Sheffield dont even bother with the translation as they understand the Japanese date format (year = years since Emporer's assention).
