Tyre wear
Can any one help or have the same problem.
I have a 03 WRX and i a little problem with the front passenger tyer wearing on the outside edge this is the second tyer since i have had the car. First Tyer was Bridgeston Second Tyer Toyo and both tyers have worn in the same place and in the same amount of time I have been told that this might be a common problem with scooby's? Can any one shine some light on this subject for me please Thanks Dave |

Mine was like that when I bought it. I presumed it was from the previous owner trying to drive round roundabouts too fast.

+1 for roundabouts.
AFAIK they should wear the inside edge when driven correctly... :D I've worn the sidewall writing down on mine... :norty: |
I have a 55 reg STi, done approx 6k miles from new, and my fronts are badly worn on the outer edge - is this about right wear for subaru OEM tyres (Bridgestone Potenza).
Most of my driving is done on a daily commute to work - so hardly been nailing it for the 6k either ?? When we talk about geometry check - I have heard people going for the "prodrive" geometry - whats the difference ?? Thanks |
FATBOY I'd say thats excessive. Need to get geometry done properly by a specialist, not the local dealer or tyre service as they don't have a clue. Subaru standard tolerances are huge and allow dealers to get away with poor work.
I don't think there is anything magical about "Prodrive" geometry all they do is define a decent set up. Generally max equal negative camber on the front (about 1 deg 15 min) and everything else set straight with minor toe variations in the + or - 1 mm range depending on taste or the specialists views. TSL, Powerstation, Scoobyclinic and the likes is where to go. |
Thats nice to know. Btw, are you stating fact for opinion on Subaru geometry?

Who do you recommend for geometry settings? I'm in N Yorks.

I'm in East Yorks and I go down to Scoobyclinic for all my needs. About 90 mins from where I live. If you're not too far from the A1 shouldn't take you too long to get there.

I had prodrive settings and still worn on the outer edges. I think they were roundabouted !!!!! Fact of life I think !!

Tyre wear
My first set of Bridgy RE050 lasted 35k miles but it was the outside shoulder that necessitated the replacement. Front NS wore most- very noticeable in first 10k miles. Check your tyre pressures. A low front NS will accelaerate shoulder wear. I run my fronts at 2.4Bar now. Replaced with the same tyres and now the inside shoulders have worn excessively- geometry has been done a couple of times but not sure how well. About to get 3rd set of Bridgies and defo having the geometry adjusted at DSA in Aylesbury.
