A bit technical, but a good tool.
Not really a group buy, but i'm going to be ordering one of these within the week.
OBDPros Basically it is a tool which you can plug into your OBD port (on board diagnostics, notmally situated under steering wheel), and can see exactly what the ECU is doing. ie you can view exact engine temp, oil pressure, oil temp, MAF etc etc etc, basically most electonic sensor readouts from the car. Plus these allow you to reset ECU error codes or see what the code relates to. This will NOT allow you to reflash your ECU though, it is just a monitoring tool. As the dollar rate is so good at the moment, it works out about £60 ($120) inc P&P, an excellent price IMO. Last time i was quote to reset my ECU light, that was £50 alone for a one off. Thankfully it was an error code which reset itself. There is plenty of software available for these tools, here is one such software product OBD II Scan Tool Software and Hardware - ProScan Details. Some of them are free also. So if you have a laptop and Impreza, worth while tool. Anyone else interested as i'll see if i can get them cheaper if there is a few of us ? EDIT - About OBD2 Compliance In 1996 in the United States, a Federal Law came into force requiring all US-sold cars to be OBDII compliant. Most OBDII tools are therefore advertised as working with all cars from 1996. The OBDII Federal Law applied only to cars sold in the US. In the UK and the rest of Europe, our equivalent law (European On-Board Diagnostics, or EOBD) did not come into force, and more importantly, was not fully implemented by our car manufacturers, until 2001 for petrol cars (2003/4 for diesels). Where an OBDII tool is sold in the UK/Europe claiming to work on all cars from 1996, this is highly unlikely to be the case. Even where a seemingly identical car may have been sold in Europe and the US before 2001, from testing and research, it is rarely the case that the European model will be OBDII/EOBD compliant. So do these tools work with any UK/European cars before 2001? Yes they do, but certainly not across the board, and very rarely back as far as 1996. A few manufacturers have some OBDII/EOBD support (on petrol models) before 2001 are listed below:

That's a pretty good price, I paid £50 ish for my USB - OBDII cable and use it with EcuExplorer from Tari Racing on my laptop fantastic free software which, if you're feeling brave, comes with ECU Flash for reflashing the ECU!

early classics don't have the OBD port:( was going to buy a SECS unit as Flat Eric already mentioned, but unless you're willing to splice into the wiring loom to fit it, it's a no go.

OK, have an update on pricing for these.
If i order 5, i can get a 15% discount. Based on the $99.99 (USB) normal priced model after discount is $84.99. Postage & Packing for the 5 is going to be no more than $40 based on weight. So, based on these prices each unit will cost at todays exchange rate, approximately £47.10 :thumb: . Quite a saving over the initial £60 if you bought a single one. They come with full leads etc. There is a serial version available which is $84.99 before discount. They come with all leads and a CD of software. I have read a few threads where this company have posted and their techinical support is very good and always reply to emails. So come on, who 'definately' wants one so i can place an order. If you have questions about what these can do, please let me know or visit their web site. |
Have a look at digimoto.com cost about £50 imported from states and has live time loging , fault clearing / reading . on road dyno function / 0 to 60 timings / 1/4 mile etc . found it well worth it :) .

Scuba-Doo - I have looked at Digimoto in the past and have heard bad things about them. No delivery, long waits, poor technical support, no frequent software updates etc etc. Also their USB package is $170. Do you have the link you are refering to for the hardware product you have bought, or are you just refering to the software which is $50?
EDIT - It was my mistake, its actually another company that have a bad reputation, not Digimoto. |

But must say I've not had any problems as such , only on doing a road dyno run and then had live tech help and was answered straight away and sorted out . |

I sent an email to the supplier asking how much individual posting would be, that way we may be able to avoid import tax due to the value of each individual item sent.
Cut a long story side ways, individual posting would be $22, compared to the $40 for 5. So in effect this pushes each item up to £54.06. The item are going to be sent USPS (United States Postal Service) which ever option we choose, which having read up on the internet is less likely to incur import duties than UPS and FedEx. So the choice is yours people. We can have them posted individually or together. Either way, if import taxes are charged, of course these will be passed on. Your views ??? |
