longest engine life

mine went bang the other week but it had covered 153k miles and was a uk spec engine running 320bhp and 313lbs is there an engine out there that has lasted longer

Jonno_johnson 03 December 2006 04:27 PM

Not that iv heard, was it ever rebuilt in that time, or did it manage that kind of mileage, with just servicing etc.

bighead 03 December 2006 04:28 PM

very impressive :)...had your money's worth lol

B9GLY 03 December 2006 04:41 PM

seen an old M3 with over 250000mils on the clock!!! still going strong

catalunya199again 03 December 2006 04:43 PM

had a new crank but wasnt due to engine failure my cam pullet came off lol but it just had servicing and that was it

borat52 03 December 2006 04:45 PM

Not heard of more from an impreza but my old man had an isuzu trooper 2.8TD with then engine still going stong at 285k miles. He used it offroad in river water for most of its life and the chassis ended up rotting with the engine still ticking over a treat.

jaysscooby 03 December 2006 05:16 PM

So you had a standard engine with no modifactions running 320bhp and it covered 153000 miles without anything being changed(apart from the main part..... the crank)before it died!!!!!!

chocolate_o_brian 03 December 2006 05:21 PM

covered 1530000 miles
:eek2: :eek2: wow one and a half million miles. thats good going. do you drive like pslweis?

catalunya199again 03 December 2006 05:53 PM

Yup LOL. And if it was done properly, it would have had new bearing shells too - and which bit wears out first? ;):D

So how long did it last on current crank? :wonder:

catalunya199again 03 December 2006 06:05 PM

about 30k on the new crank i think, looks like a con rod has decided it would show itself :lol1:

jaysscooby 03 December 2006 06:09 PM

so it died at 120k miles then.

stockcar 03 December 2006 06:32 PM

customers leggy turbo................205K then an old dodderer tunred into the O/S/F corner, car written off, engine still ran!!

And, unlike Mr Lewis, you cannot spell ;)

Nice to see an Engine doing such big mileages even if modded - mine should be good for 250,000miles I guess?

catalunya199again 03 December 2006 08:31 PM

lol i have had the great mr lewis post on my thread :notworthy

as stated my engine didnt fail at 120k because something went bang my cam pulley cam pulley off cause it wore itself off the woodraft key by spinning on itself

jaysscooby 03 December 2006 10:18 PM

right... so let me get this right......

something went wrong with the engine at 120k miles.(went bang)

you had to replace the crank(main part of engine)

but it went for another 30k miles on the new parts..................

well done on the engine doing 120k miles(very good)

well done on replacing the parts and it lasted another 30k miles.

im not trying to take the p**s but im only saying what im reading!!!!!!!!!

catalunya199again 03 December 2006 10:30 PM

my engine never went bang, i was driving slowly and the cam pulley came off, i was advised to get the whole crank changed as the woodraft key was knackered as well, the engine would of worked if i just replaced the cam pulley with a new one but the same thing would of happend again over time

terzo282 04 December 2006 09:45 AM

got a 136k on 98 terzo runs sweet

ReggieMY99 04 December 2006 10:02 AM

162k on my 99, runs sweet as ever :)

DaveD 04 December 2006 12:58 PM

161k on MY93 WRX, full decat and ScoobyECU.

Despite the abuse it's had, I've only just had the original clutch changed!!

Shows that you know how to drive m8y!

craigdmcd 04 December 2006 05:49 PM

220K on a legacy turbo before I let the oil go too low during a spirited run. That's when Subaru's actually had proper reliability.
Have seen a Merc E300 24V with in excess of 400K before needing a block change due to corrosion in the water ways.

leonpoole 04 December 2006 07:35 PM

My WRX Type R went pop after 76k miles and 5 gearboxes

Subaru High Mileage Club makes one think they will be ALL Scoobys - Scooby is a nickname for SUBARU - not IMPREZA! :D
