Bat-Fink 16 November 2006 12:34 PM

Richard Bulmer.

Tidgy 16 November 2006 12:37 PM

yeah thats who i thought did it. tar

Bat-Fink 16 November 2006 12:37 PM

Used to work for TSL as well IIRC.

TonyG 16 November 2006 12:51 PM

Tidgemeister, if you're getting yours remapped there, let me know what it costs, and how long it takes - I'm thinking about getting mine done at some point.

Tidgy 16 November 2006 12:59 PM

um, not exactly, i'll drop you a bell and have a natter with ya mate, might have something you may be interested in if your looking at having a map done ;)

TonyG 16 November 2006 01:45 PM

Sounds intriguing...

GazTheHat 16 November 2006 04:02 PM

Project Phoenix in Jap Performance Mag had a Hydra ECU added and mapped. Maybe worth a read...?

They had a few problems with it at the start.

Tidgy 16 November 2006 04:35 PM

o right, did they get round them in the end?

I don't know, the article finished without it being resolved. I think their closing comment was something like, it is good, but has niggles. If they can be overcome, then it will be an excellent package.

briforbes 16 November 2006 08:01 PM

It actually turned out to be an unrelated problem (goosed battery, I think), and therefore nothing to do with the Hydra ECU or the ability of it's mapper.

I couldn't believe he'd brought the ability of the ECU and Mapper into question so publicly by publishing his comments in Japanese Performance before finding out what was actually causing the problem, especially given that it was such a simple thing to spot.

In an industry where mappers rely heavily on their reputation, this was out of order.

:eek2: Bloody 'el, that is bad!

Tidgy 17 November 2006 11:02 AM

tbh mate accounts to liable doesn't it? but all new systems have teething issue, as long as there sorted correctly your ok.

all slagging aside, the hydra ecu system, as i understand it, is based on the motec, which is based on the gems system etc etc, but has added knock detection.

so how good actually is it? has anyone on here got it fitted to there car yet?

not after a slag fest, im after genuin opions and experiances so please keep coments constructive, good or bad.

I've heard that Richard takes quite an innovative approach to tuning - his reverse inlet manifold system for reducing lag and off-boost driveability for example. I think I'm also right in saying he was also the brains behind TSL's pulse extraction system...

Must agree with the above,it did turn out to be a silly fault ,and nothing to do with the Hydra ecu, which seems to be a good piece of equipment.
