Depends if you have access to HD feeds or not. If not, then no.

scoobydooooo 15 November 2006 02:43 PM

it's my understanding that there are only about 4 or 5 channels on sky and you have to subsrcibe [ ie upgrade ] to watch them am i right ??

Mogsi 15 November 2006 02:49 PM

He'll need a Sky HD box ( £300 ish ) and the additional HD monthly subscription...( £10 per month )

scoobydooooo 15 November 2006 03:01 PM

cheers mate , that's what i thought !!

john_s 15 November 2006 03:51 PM

To watch HD broadcasts, play HD consoles, and soon (once they get cheaper) to watch HD-DVD or Blu-Ray movies.

Other than that can't see much point to it :wonder:

Ditto that, probably one of the cheapest ways to watch HD DVD's to once the player comes out.

hail-hail 15 November 2006 04:27 PM

I have Sky HD and you get about 12 channels I think. I have the full sky package and Sky+ multiroom aswell and it all comes to about £60 per month.

I mainly watch Sky HD for Planet Earth and the footy and is it a stunning picture, well worth it. The HD also sends a better (1080) signal through so all channels look better through the HD box.

:D

Boro 15 November 2006 09:40 PM

Does SkyHD use 1080i or 1080p?

AudiLover 15 November 2006 10:11 PM

i thought it was 780i

I thought only PS3 and blueray would be the ones with 1080i/p compatability at the moment.

Trout 15 November 2006 10:14 PM

There is a 1080p 65in Viera in Prague Airport - it is FANTASTIC.

All I would need is Joey's chair from Friends and I would be sorted :)

Year 2 = £720

Year 3 = £720

Year 4 it will be all old hat ... please start again at Year 1 ... yes, I know you have just spent £2460 - but, tough luck!! Start again with a new box ...

The girlfriend just came off the phone to tell me the Telewest TV-Drive has been installed :) This should improve SD content and of course now I can get HD programes as well - is that Planet Earth program broadcast in HD? If so roll on the animals on sunday :D

yup, bbc HD sky channel 145

Chelspeed 16 November 2006 05:34 PM

What makes me giggle is the thought of the HD demonstrations on normal Sky? What the f***? It'll look just like normal TV because........ it's on normal TV.

Nat 16 November 2006 06:13 PM

Planet Earth is reason enough not just for the BBC licence fee but for the Sky HD subscripton as well :thumb:

The book also takes care of Two peoples christmas presents for me :D

LG John 16 November 2006 06:46 PM

Well I got home and they have connected up my TV drive with the old scart cables and left no HDMI cable, or any audio feeds  Off out to comet as its the closest place! They also ran out of placed to 'plug' stuff so they just disconnected my internet

LG John 16 November 2006 08:28 PM

Ok, a little dissapointed here!! I got TV Drive installed today and initally it was running via the RBG Scart as per the old Telewest box. The picture on the SD channels was pretty good (as it has been for a few weeks since I got the TV). I nipped out to buy a 24k gold HDMI lead and have connected it up and switched the TV Drive output to HDMI @ 720 (normal, not wide). The HD content is great but SD is pretty p*ss poor. There are loads of jaggies, noise and blockiness. I thought HDMI was the best possible connection so why is my picture so poor on SD. There is even some noise visible on HD but nowhere near as bad. Where have I gone wrong?

LG John 16 November 2006 11:17 PM

Hmmm, quality seems to vary a lot from channel to channel but in the main they seem to be pretty good. BB1 was utter p*sh during Eastenders and around that time. I've also perhaps been asking too much from the set up as my complaints were from sitting about 2 feet away from a 32" LCD to set it up. When I sit on the sofa 6 feet away I can't see any of the issues I was describing and the quality on some channels is outstanding. Existence is playing on Sci-Fi at the moment and from the correct viewing position you'd swear its almost HD :)
