Having an ST and have driven a WRX, WR1 and a classic type RA.
In a straight line. The ST would have the WRX at any speed ONCE rolling. Off the mark then obviously the WRX would be quicker, but I reckon the ST would start to reel it in after that.
In the dry, the ST would keep up with the WRX on the twisties, but would struggle when wet.

Edited to add. Just noticed you said MY06, I drove the MY05 not the MY06. Sorry.

On every day roads, driven by average/above average drivers, there'd be nothing in it. The ST I would say would be slightly quicker once rolling, and would be equal to the WRX (if not better) on the twisties. Contrary to people beliefs, the Impreza is not the best handling car in the world. Obviously throw in wet tarmac, and the WRX will have an advantage

Also take into consideration that the ST is better built, has a better interior (by miles), better sound system (by miles) and has a all round better feel good factor about it. the Impreza's interior is Cheap, and thats being kind.

It's still a Ford!!!

C2forWRX 27 October 2006 10:34 AM

not that im a fan of the ST, but the WRX used to be the performance bargain, but i recon the ST has stole the sub 20K region. If you add PPP, the WRX would have the edge again

Add Bluefin and uprated IC. Cheaper than PPP and the ST would have the edge again over the WRX PPP.

Thats a daft comment.
It's like me saying "But the Subaru is just an agricultural vehicle for farmers". Things move on, alot.

Husaberk 27 October 2006 11:10 AM

Having driven both, there's not much it. Ford has the slightly better engine, Impreza handles a little bit better(more adjustable, less roll). Both very good cars.

HOWY 27 October 2006 11:14 AM

But isn't a EU WRX cheaper to buy (approx £16k) than an ST?

 Just what I was thinking! :D

rallying1 27 October 2006 12:47 PM

Who cares??;) At the end of the day unless you were driving either of them like a complete loon there wouldn't be a lot in it, its all down to how a car feels to drive in my humble opinion, Iv'e had RS Fords and GTIs and blah, blah , blah but they were all good at the time and at the mo I like my scooby, but I wouldnt turn down an Orange ST 3 though, they are lush!!

powerman1 27 October 2006 01:14 PM

who gives a monkeys hoot..both cars a brilliant

Tripple'O G 27 October 2006 03:12 PM

But the ST is a fwd???

So if you look at it from a tuning point a view....fcuk the ST.....:lol1:
There's a kid in a bright orange one by me....never learns...:lol1:

Bat-Fink 27 October 2006 03:14 PM

Also the Impreza would suffer from more transmission losses once rolling.

3 pages BTW.;);)

Bat-Fink 27 October 2006 03:21 PM

Sorry mate can't hear you.

Never learns what? What exactly do you do to 'teach him a lesson'. At least he doesn't look like a dick who bought one of the ugliest cars ever made.....................

Tripple'O G 27 October 2006 03:33 PM

at least I don't look like a d!ck with one of the ugliest mugs ever created....

Ask your mum about my lesson teaching skills...

"Now this is called kicking your back doors in.....
Step 1..... bend over.....
Step 2....spread your cheeks....
Step 3......tell me when you feel my finger...
Look MA! no hands!!"

As you've never seen me and are never likely to as you declined my offer to attend one of your made up cage fights what do you base that comment on? Your fevered dreams just before you wake up in a cold sweat?

As for the 'yo momma' stuff, thanks for confirming that not only have no imagination but also that you are in fact beaten. :D

Tripple'O G 27 October 2006 03:45 PM

I told you.....I don't want you at one of my comps but i'd be quite happy to meet you and kick 7 shades of sh!t out of you :thumb:

As for the lack of imagination, I thought that was quite funny:lol1: ....just a shame you can't come out with anything new proving, in fact, you're the one lacking in that dept :thumb:

anyway...lets not hijack this thread....i'd send you a pm but you haven't grasped that fact have you...:lol1:

I looked at both but when you are talking to work mates (:brickwall :freak3: ) I didn’t want to try and explain why my ford is good and that it’s fast to most people it’s just a ford …

a scooby is "o its one of them rally cars"

+ with some of the Prodrive kit on it I think my one would kill a ST in the bends, even before I take it to powerstation or ppp

bearded dragon 27 October 2006 07:11 PM

my view:

I dislike orange as a colour for cars.

I physically fit into a Scoob seats and driver position far better than the Focus

I think the Focus ST is stained by the ST170 both on cost and performance.

I think the Scoob WRX is living on the reputation of its elders.

The Focus ST is lagging the MY06 STi (I have a PPP aswell)

Subaru is WYSIWYG

Ford stripe you right up on the 'extras' to catch up. The ST170 cost more than a WRX and was the equivalent to the SX

The ST reduces the gap. I think the gap is massively widened when you take mods into account - the limits of Focus are more restrictive than the limits of Scooby.

My experience of Essex Ford is I would rather walk.
My experience of Essex Scooby dealers is much better (tho not in the East Midlands)

In short Focus ST vs Scoob WRX is personal choice.

Focus ST vs Scoob STi (any year) and it is an unfair contest.

As a company car I would prefer a Focus ST than a BMW or Audi/VW/Scoda (at least for performance)

And I must say that the pictures of the Focus Cosworth I have seen make it so damn pig ugly I don't give a to$$ what the perfomance is like:nono: This is the only beast liable to give a 'proper' Scoob a run for its money.

Oh, BTW, the Filth don't give a toss when they take pictures that mean you end up driving a punto for 5 years. Remember that cars are the root of all evil, and you would get punished less (in law) for porking the Cabinets wives than doing 35 in a 30 zone. If you would want to, and looking at those I realise why speeding is on the increase.

So - the question is:

are you more evil driving a Scoob or a Focus or an M5 or a Skyline or a Ferrari or an F1 car??????

Rant over, back to docile.

andythejock01wrx 27 October 2006 07:18 PM

Do any of the techie folk on the site know the typical transmission loss for

A) a 4wd car

B) a Fwd car ?

I mean a specific percentage, rather than just "it's a lot more in the 4wd".

bearded dragon 27 October 2006 07:25 PM

the ultimate test.

Go to Scooby dealer, ask to test drive any Impreza. Rag the arse out of it around the lanes.
Take photo of Salesperson.:wonder:

Laugh.:lol1:

Laugh again. :lol1:

Remember not to buy the demo vehicle from either supplier:nono:
