In fairness to Torpid/ Vapid I have to say this is one time I agree with him. My blob is running in excess of 360bhp and is certainly no slouch but there are other cars on the road that will happily match it in certain areas.

Not wanting a war, but whats 20yrs plus that will lap the ring better than most? Just interested.

Also have to agree, and I LOL @ some of the responses on this thread desperately defending the Scooby. (At least I think that's how I deciphered the spelling :norty:)

Look, nobody is saying the car is bad. It's a great all-round car, with fantastic real-world, usable performance. However when it comes to out-and-out performance, it's nowhere near cutting edge and has pretty much been caught up by the leading hot hatches. (The exceptions to this are some of the import special editions which in some cases are truly special, and also Litcho's custom built T-models.) I had a bugeye myself which I spent over 15k modifying for track and fast road use, and yet I regularly had close calls on both road and track with supposedly 'lesser' cars.

Additionally, the image IMHO has gone down the pan and is the reason I will never buy another.

But guys, really, stop worrying what I think or what anyone else thinks, if you like your car, that's all that matters surely? But just don't argue black isn't black because it destroys your credibililty.

Agreed, I went from a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo to my current Bugeye WRX.
The Fiat was quicker by a fair stretch but my Bugeye is the more complete car all round. I'm not so bothered about the pace anymore just the enjoyment of driving the car.
Bugeyes in standard WRX form aren't that quick unless the roads are greasy or you drop the clutch away from the lights.

Indeed. That's how it is . Its a good car for the money, but not exceptional.
Its 4wd is a plus though. Its one of the better performance cars for the cash.

it will be great fun, to see an Audi S8 on the Ring. Do you have an anchor for your S8 :D The brakes will suffer extremly, as long as you don`t drive your grandma around ;)

So, I will try, to be at the Ring on Sunday, cause its closed on Saturday.
I will ask my friends, if they can come too, so we would have my classic, one MY02 bug eye STI, one MY04 peanut eye STI. Maybe Aston can join us, so we would have a good comparison between different modelyears of Imprezas and a Audi S8.

I think, for the most of us, the high speed is not so interesting. Certainly, there are faster cars on the german Autobahn, but a Fiat Coupe never has a chance on the ring.

You're right about the brakes, one lap and then wait a while for them to cool down is the way to do it.
As for the anchor, you'll be surprised how well the old girl goes.

No doubt, but due to the high weight of your car, I don`t see a big chance for the S8, unless you can drive like Sabine Schmitz :D

It's a very heavy car to be good on any track but it's more fun than you'd imagine and surprised more than a few of the 'all the gear and no idea' Porsche mob that often clutter the place up.

13.5 to 115? Thats 60-115 in 6.5 seconds which is highly unlikely with 190bhp.
