jack straw's comments, what's the problem?

not being funny, but isn't it about time other religions showed respect for us for a change?

read that a news reader wasn't allowed to wear a crucifix for fear of pissing off some band wagon jumping cleric or something, so why can't we voice an opinion?

really woke up on the wrong side of bed this morning!;):D

Good for Jack, the guys being open and honest...........

Abdabz 06 October 2006 07:14 AM

Aye the fellas done nothing wrong. It's his request not an order... They can still say no.
Thankfully most muslims seem to see it that way but a certain percentage take offence . My feeling is, if they dont like it, flights from England to Pakistan leave from Manchester daily...

DCI Gene Hunt 06 October 2006 08:16 AM

The small percentage taking offence are always the extremists looking to cause a ****storm over anything.... they provoke trouble by not being prepared to except any reality other than their twisted view of the world...

This is a attempt at a personal attack on Jack Straw over his rights to free speech and ultimately being able to criticise another stupid muslim practise!

Frosty The Snowman 06 October 2006 08:24 AM

He could always even the playing field and where a jilbab type of garment himself :D

I am sure some of our resident psychologists can confirm that a good percentage of understanding during a conversation is derived from body language and facial expression. Therefore conducting a conversation with someone hiding everything under clothing would give them an unfair advantage.

MJW 06 October 2006 08:52 AM

Don't let this furore cloud everyone's judgement about Jack Straw - he is a complete **** after all, regardless of his views on the burqa.

David Lock 06 October 2006 09:09 AM

Straw "OK gal, take your vale off"

Prescott "OK gal, take your knickers off"

Mandelson "OK pal...........

unclebuck 06 October 2006 10:20 AM

Another day, another tirade of muslim outrage.

ChefDude 06 October 2006 10:47 AM

when in rome... ;)

Paul3446 06 October 2006 10:56 AM

Behead Jack Straw! :lol1:

sociopath 06 October 2006 11:00 AM

I suppose we should be thankful the religious head bangers in his constituency are even willing to talk to him at all.

Whenever I have had the misfortune of being amongst groups of these women in their balaclavas and stretched blouses in shops etc they are pud-pud-pudding away in 'tongues' and make no effort to speak English, let alone interact with normal people.

Then again, there are enough fat, ugly excuses for white women out there who would benefit from a stretched blouse and a silk bag over their heads so maybe the muslim women are doing us a favour.

I don't speak to fat mingers or muslims so I don't care either way. :thumb:

scoobydooooo 06 October 2006 11:01 AM

do muslim women have to take off their vails when they go in to banks ?? ie , you cannot walk in a bank with a motor cycle helmet on ,

David Lock 06 October 2006 11:16 AM

Could he ask Ruth Kelly and that Hewitt woman to put vales on? Make it easier on us all :) (Oh and Cherie of course)

Don't think so. Think I also read they can have their passport photo taken with it on as well

Leslie 06 October 2006 11:29 AM

Yet another storm in a teacup engendered by the PC Plonkers and the fanatics who will jump on any excuse to start whining.

His was quite a reasonable request under the circumstances and they did not have to remove the veils anyway.

Time we put a bomb under the PC Plonkers I think. That business over the crucifix and the joke about the Nips that that clergyman made in his magazine is way over the top and shows what this country is descending to under their malign influence.

Les :(

as far as im aware they dont have to take it off but the banks are not allowed by law to talk to them in their language it has to be english unless they book an appointment with a translator.

I'd be surprised, only last week I was coming through passport control back into England and saw many Muslim women lifting their veil's for photo comparison. I was pleasantly surprised I must admit.

gaz-cole 06 October 2006 12:03 PM

if they want to wear the letter box across there face then they should do it at home they live in england they should respect our point of view about not wanting to talk to a letter box, give jack straw a medal

I'd imagine the laws surrounds veils etc would soon change if everybody started wearing them. Imagine all them millions and millions spent on cctv for nothing. Crimewatch would be boring too ;)

Seems it's the headscarf they can wear - http://www.themodernreligion.com/wom...uidelines.html rather than the full veil.

Mountain out of a molehill:

He said he asks cause of personal pref, but does not make it a condition of speaking to them, so they can wear if if they wish. Dont see what the problem is frankly.
