Wifey's GTI-6......some piccies at last!

Well, we've had it a few days, and given it a damn good clean out.

Still got proper wash and shammy, then claybar/wax it, but it's cleaned up pretty well so far :)

not bad for a fraction of Fkcu all :D

Apologies about the piccy quality - the light was going :(

Phase 2 had much of the weight of the phase 3 without quite managing most of the more modern bits :p. Always thought is had neither the lighter weight, slightly rawer appeal of the phase 1, or the more refined goodies of the phase 3. That's just personal prefs, and I certainly don't have a problem with silver cars . . .;) White looks good but sometimes needs a lot of cleaning, same as black (which I think also suits the phase 1's, having owned a black phase 1 Dturbo as an economic runabout for a bit)

PS to go back to topic, agree that if you get a half decent phase 1 GTi-6, they are going to be a great car for the money, decently quick and a seriously entertaining chassis; so nice one :)

I have to admit that whist driving it the 135miles home, I got off the M6, and hit the A49............

And haven't had as much of a laugh in a LONG time!!! :D

Go-Kart handling, and really responsive feel

Better handling than the Scoob by a long run. And i had two Scoobs!! :D

Nowhere near the performance of my S4, but soooo much more fun!! :D

The big problem now is fighting the wife for the keys :D

Interesting comments, I went off Evo/Impreza etc etc as they were just too good for getting real enjoyment out of driving (and I do not mean big numbers on a speedo as that is just boring). As one gets more mature (me now mid 30s) the more I crave early hot hatches including the 306 Rallye/GTI as it is all about enjoying yourself and not being bothered by my 1/4 time is quicker than yours. In my opinion 4x4 sports cars suck (including the 911 4S) and there is no real sense of achievement.

If you saw Fifth Gear (I know it is REALLY crap but Tiff is still a legend) you will have seen the new Clio, now that is what it is all about.

Would love another GTi-6 but ive got the S16 to keep me going ;) all 72k miles on the clock, though she needs a new exhaust to finish her off and then the alloys need redoing.... runs though, head gasket done, new alloy rad etc, door seals.... ill do those soon also!

Tony:)

Tony - where did you get an exhaust from, as I'm trying to find a cheap and cheerful replacement. Going to keep the car totally standard (no induction kits etc)....

Any suggestions?

Dan :)

TonyBurns 03 October 2006 01:11 PM

There are a couple of places that do exhausts, one on ebay and your local garage, cost is approx 150 quid inc for back box and section to cat, cat is 150 quid also.

Partco do a good cheap standard system, looks identical to the genuine Pug one, and probably is, but half the cost

How does the phase 1 compare like to the drive of the 106 GTI?

And what kind of money do they go for ?

ScoobyDoo555 03 October 2006 09:18 PM

Depends - I got a bargain. A Phase 1 for £1400 :D

Typically, they go for -

Phase 1 - circa £2K
Phase 2 - circa £2.5 - 3K
Phase 3 - circa £3K - 4K for a goody

I can't comment on the 106, but I've driven the Saxo VTr & s 9one of them is the 106 gti comparison) - found them both sh1te :(

306 deffo much better ;) :D

Dan

ps thanks for the tip about the zorst ;)

TonyBurns 12 October 2006 11:14 PM

Try here for exhausts ;)

Online Automotive :: Search Results
Im not saying cheap or anything but a FULL exhaust for the S16 is just over 200 quid inc del and vat (includes the cat  :D)

Tony:)
