Why are all the quickest scoobs 2.33?
 
Excuse my ignorance & apologies if this has been done before but I notice all the quickest UK Scoobs are 2.33 litre (Basically a 2.2 block with a 2.5 litre US STI crank.) Is this the ideal bore /stroke combination?
Normally you cant beat cubes but people say the full 2.5 engine will not rev hence power output is limited?
In the bike world bores are becoming increasingly bigger & strokes shorter in the quest for revs, would this not work on a scoob engine?
Anyone recommend a good up to date book covering modifying turbo engines?

Because its supposedly the strongest form of Impreza engine being a CDB...... and you've got near the torque of the 2.5... but also rev's well like the 2 litre...

Easiest and most reliable way to build a larger capacity engine that doesn't pop head gaskets. Expect more "quick" 2.5s as technology improves and becomes more accessable.

And 2.33's are the most expensive to build?

If you spent as much as a 'good' 2.33 costs on a 2.5 base, what would the performance be like in comparison?

Lets say a 'good' 2.33 cost 10K fully dressed,(550 x 450?) then using the USA 2.5 as a starter and the same budget you would get...?

IMHO you can build a 2.5 that works well, but I know as a matter of fact you can build 2.35 that works well.

Any tips on good books guys that cover things like maximum piston speeds using using up to date materials & technology,choosing turbos, etc?
