Block: Closed Deck or not?
Hi y'all. Looking for a spare block to play with as a project. Is there anyway I can tell if its a closed deck or not by code number or from the car it was removed? Have a few potential blocks but have not been taken apart so looking for any clues :)

Closed Deck Block will have Cross Hatching on the Oil Filter Casting on the Block.

Good man! :thumb: Will make sure to check that then!

all my friends scoobs have got the cross hatching on the top, including mine? these cars are different years, older classics,
does this mean we all have closed decks? |
must do which is always a good sign, is there any way of telling what internals are in there without opening them up
|
Yes the code on the VIN plate can tell you whether or not its a WRX or STI engine, cant remember off hand but will see if I can find it

bttt (if your about jolly g) is this inf correct cheers kip

The hatching is on all the heads, don't muddle it.. the hatching on the block identifies a close deck block indeed. The vin plate will tell you nothing as not all the STi's had closed deck blocks and many cars no longer run there original engine anyway.
