Sequential conversion kit
 

Looking for a sequential conversion kit for 5-speed subaru gearbox. Found some companys but they only do to 6-speed:

I contacted Seqshift recently and they did not have the system fully sorted for a six speed. About 8 months ago I contacted Ikeya and they had run in to problems. I asked them to get in touch when it was available but heard nothing.
Matt Clark of Roger Clark Motorsport has done at least 2 sequential shifters, one of which is paddle controlled. He is on holiday at present but that may be a starting place. I think the cost at present is somewhat prohibitive.

How about this sytem, anyone tested this?

Do you all think there is a real time advantage to this shifter?
Drag racing maybe where you cut through the box just once, but beyond that?

Myself and someone else are developing a sequentially shifted gearbox, which will be available once it has been proven to work..

At the moment is showing promise and can cause serious injury :D

Having had the RCMS system explained to me by Matt, it sounds like an excellent piece of kit, and should work to save time both up and down the box in any situation, eliminating "missed" gears or "wrong" selection. As yet, i dont think this is available to the public, until further testing has been carried out, and a price structure developed.

The sequential system David is working on, currently for 5 speeds, is looking good, and would be great to see it passed on to consumers, but like RCMS, they are having to do a lot of testing before it goes public.

A well set up sequential will save time, and IMO, save some damage to the gears themselves, when compared with a FAST manual shift.

I dont need to dream on.. I've got a gearbox sat on the bench in my garage, currently needs some machining doing to complete the next stage, which Im unable to do, also if you dont believe me then Its not really any loss.. but why would Andrew Carr and Steve (Scoobyduck) be helping me sort out the control code for something that doesnt exist???

I may post some pics tonight, if you really dont believe me!

Sounds interesting David.. will it be a complete box or just an add on to standard box?

It is effectively an add on to a standard casing, but it wont be user fit due to the complexities of modifying a case.. We will probably also suppy it with a gear kit pre built, oh and it will be a dog kit, but I guess you knew that.

What we dont know is how it will behave in slow moving traffic!

still sounds interesting.. currently saving for a gearset.. not overly worried about dogkit 1 to 4 but ideally not in 5th due to motorway noise.. assuming that is possible.. haven't looked into it deliberatly yet otherwise I'd spend the money before I have it..

yeah, but it aint going to be smooth changing gear that quickly whilst crawling IYSWIM :) And dont you mean straight cut? / Helical.. Dog is the Engagement :)

like I said I haven't looked into the insides of a gearbox yet else I will spend money on it. . lol

Current engine was only suppose to be running UK heads and a TD05 20g.. lol
then I looked into it.. lmfao.

I think the ability of any box that is dog engagement in traffic is a major issue for a multi purpose car, like my hillclimber.

The real market will be for people like myself, not just track stars.
Saw the Ikea (spelling!) shifter in an real race car on Sat and what a nice piece of engineering it looked. Is it a true bolt-on for needs adapting, not interested to buy one (I'm happy to slow change my delicate V3 Trans), just interested.

Still not convinced it would make a big time advantage on a hillclimb.

David: I don't doubt that you are developing a sequential shift but will it ever be finished?
I would like to see you suceed with it as it could be a useful development for the Scooby community if it ever becomes available commercially.

We will have to wait and see how it turns out, And If it can be successfully finished then it will be, Unfortunatley weve been planning it for a fair while, before I heard about the rcms solution which looks very nice! Had that been around and at price a price within my budget then I might have ever started.

As for commercially available, Im not doing this for commercial gain, I just want a nice quick gearchange :) Make no mistake though, it needs to cover the costs invested so far :)

Graham, i drove my own car with a modena dog box through early morning rush hour traffic in Leeds, and if i am honest, it was no different to a shyncro box.

Steven... what I mean is, when you were driving that car, you werent changing gear like you do on a drag strip with no clutch on the inner ring road though.. well actually..

Would you really like a sequential trying to do gear changes in 30ms whilst crawling in traffic with the kids in the car? (Actually forget that!)

You will remember i said i was changing gear using the same method i would on the strip, ie Clutch 1st to 2nd, no clutch 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th, 4th to 5th. Granted, RPM's and TP might be considerably lower than a drag situation, but i think the sequential could be as equally competent.

It's like anything though, you learn to drive around things like that.
