New OZ Ultraleggra Rims?

Whats the verdict on these new OZ Ultralegga Rims (available from ScoobWorld)?

Think they will suit the car below? The car is track focused - think I should definately stick the 17s rather than 18s?

I think they're really nice wheels and you should go for 18"

Barmyclown 19 August 2006 05:45 PM

And don`t do gold either.

MaDaSS 20 August 2006 10:48 AM

Smart bugeye that!
Go 18" and FFS dont go gold.

Ben v7 20 August 2006 11:07 AM

Cheers.

Going to go for the middle colour option in that picture - gold doesn't look right on silver IMHO. ;)

I think I can live with the slight weight penality of 18s over 17s - and don't think it will make too much difference handling wise hopefully.

richiewong 21 August 2006 08:31 AM

IMHO fcuking awful like the original SL's, seen on to many other cars.

Ben v7 21 August 2006 09:53 PM

care to suggest an alternative then? something reasonably priced, yet light and strong - no outrageously expensive only available as jap imports thanks...

My son has these (18") on his EVO IX and they look good.
I think you could be surprised to find that the 18" combination could well be lighter than the original 17's The wheels will almost certainly be lighter than the OE items and don't forget that the tyres will have the same overall diameter, but the hole in the middle is bigger = less rubber! (assuming the same tyre width)

Rota SDR'S Lightweight alloys and look the bee's knees i think

richiewong 22 August 2006 08:42 AM

Don't think Jon will mind using his car but Speedline Turini's

Light, strong and just right:D

Blimey! I remember Scoobysport selling those as the "Subaru wheel" back in 98/99?
I reckon the OZ's are much nicer. The spokes going right to the edge of the rim make the wheel look bigger? - and you can get your hand between the spokes to clean the inside of the wheel - if you're that bufty! :)

I'd be very surprised if they were. Back then the Scoobysport wheel was made by MIM, the flow formed Turinis weren't even a twinkle in Speedline's eye ;)

You're right! I stand corrected there. Apologies to Richiewong. Didn't the model name sound something like Turini?

You can still get runout Superleggeras and they are cheap now - £850 I've seen them, shod with Toyos. The 'bright flitter' ones look excellent on a silver car.

Isn't bright flitter a paint colour used by Prodrive in their PFF7s, never heard of OZ doing it. Just silver, anthracite and gold ;)

Tony.

Ben v7 23 August 2006 01:59 PM

The Rota SDR's are good looking fairly light weight rims but not available in 18s? never seem them in that size. I don't think they are especially strong etiher.

Still favouring these Ultralegga's although the other wheels suggested are very nice. :)

Mother Theresa 23 August 2006 05:55 PM

The one's on mine are defo 'bright flitter' and rather immodestly I think they look great. If I knew how to post pictures I would do so.

SlowBoy 23 August 2006 10:45 PM

Yeah, go for it. I think they look great. Quality wheel, too. Not too sure on whether I'd go for 18"s over 17"s though.

monotokpoint 24 August 2006 12:41 AM

anyone got the photoshop skills to fit them onto ben's picture?

Why's that Rich? Do you think it's going to dull the handling? I am a bit concerned about this myself and the fact that with the Spec C struts and Eibach's it's currently running that it will go from a hard ride, to a very hard ride with 18s (too hard to live with day to day)... don't want to lose compliance on our fantastic UK roads completely.

would be much appreciated if anyone could have a quick go at that. :D

SlowBoy 24 August 2006 06:30 PM

I just think that it's worth investigating the pros and cons of the two sizes. Sure the 18"s look really nice, but there is a more serious consideration, ie handling. Only way to know is to try both options, with the same tyres. Don't know how you'd go about doing it, but if you're not in a rush then take the time to find out. A bit silly spending the extra cash on 18"s (and future tyre replacements) if they're not the best option for you. Just trying to confuse you, really. ;)

SlowBoy 24 August 2006 06:39 PM

Not the right colour, but gives you an idea. http://www.tirerack.com/upgrade_gara...2&autoModClar=

Ben v7 25 August 2006 12:03 PM

Agree completely about investigating the pros and cons of the two sizes - I am more concerned about how the car drives than looks. The extra cost of 18inch rubber is a consideration for me too, especially if it's not the right option. I do think that 18s adversely affect the handling on classics (your running 17s on yours) but new-ages do seem to react better (less badly) to the larger wheels...

How do you know they are 'defo' bright flitter? By looking at them? OZ used to list on their website they are avaliable in silver, anthracite and gold. Your colour may look like the Prodrive Bright Flitter but that is a Prodrive colour, Speedline don't even seem to list it.

UltraLs are available in Matt Graphite, which is a too darker than BF.

Tony.

rooferman 25 August 2006 09:57 PM

Looks to me there would be a lot of flex between the hub and the rim of the OZ leggeras.....if you want track/motorsport focused wheels then Speedlines would be better imo.

Ben v7 26 August 2006 11:18 PM

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d1...7/RotaSDRs.jpg

Thinking of just going for the above now (17 inch, 7.3kg) - Rota SDRs as already suggested... not too expensive either.

Not sure they are going to clear the Brembo's I want to put on though... will have to investigate that first as I know they don't fit under the standard wheels I have at the moment.

SlowBoy 29 August 2006 07:14 PM

Nice wheel. Always liked this design. Not sure about the clearance, but 'm sure someone will know as it's a fairly popular wheel. This might help

The guy from whom I bought them said they were and he had bought them new. Being in the graphics type trade I would trust him if that's what he said they were.
