Anyone know about large moths & butterflies?
Had a shock this morning when I went to the kitchen widnow and found this .
Its about 5" across and 3" long! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...6Image0002.jpg The cats had a go at it overnight but its still alive. It may have been pink but has faded a lot. Is it from the UK? We've got some orchids growing on the windowsill - could it have been a pupae in the soil? Nick |
Looks like a "Death's Head Hawk moth"
Is there like a small skull shape on it's thorax? I can't tell from the photo? They do live in the UK. Alcazar |
It looks like a Privet Hawk Moth to me. The caterpillars feed on Privet leaves, hence the name. They are fairly common in England and Wales.

Let him go then. Won't do any harm.

The cats must have been chasing it around all night and it looks a bit "moth eaten". Its now been let loose for those worried about it. Nick |
