I guess thats possible - has Bob increased the ignition advance - do u use octane booster? Thats the sort of torque I'm hoping for at the next Powerstation day in my sti5 with link and a few other bits- unfortunately though I only have the VF28 as my VF22 failed! |

i have not increased the ignition advance from the old turbo. the fueling had to be changed a bit to accomodate the bigger turbo. the car feels rapid. and i don't use octane booster either however i will be for brands. shaun i don't have any more over boost than you would!! assuming all turbo charged cars will over boost to an extent. if i get any over boost at all i get 1psi if i hit the sweet spot. very unlikely on the rolling road. i will try to go to the PS rollers in the way to brands to compare the figures anyway cheers sam |

If the ignition advance has'nt been tweaked u wwont get anywhere near 292lbs torque at Powerstation I would expect you to get nearer 260lbs? Mike - 7 years with a dated Seirra? - why did you never go for the 4 wheel drive version - cant u afford to get a decent car cos your Seirra keeps braking down and breaking the bank account? Shaun - I agree 350bhp is a safe limit - I cant talk fords here as this is a Subaru sight Lets just say that on My cossie the AP clutches could not cope - one lasted 2000 miles and another 7500, pretty naf for an AP uprated clutch I was behind some muppet the other week who claimed to have 420hp at Powerengineering in his Escort Cossie- only problem was he could not get away from my pretty basic Scoob - more like 340hp me thinks 420bhp from a basic 2litre as well - now if he'd said it had a 2.2litre conversion then maybe? |

Mike lives in the late eighties/early nineties, I think hes trying to model himself on some sort of Aha / Spender hybrid. Although his cossie was definately using big horses when it was rolling roaded, not them little shetland thingies than most rolling roads seem to use. The new ones supposed to be a little more powerful, so once Ive been along to Scole next month, I will tell you if the horses have shrunk, or if hes managed to get an extra 100 or so shoved under the bonnet! robski |

When you have a really powerful car, EVERYTHING else seems slow. I have tried loads of so-called "Supercars" to tempt me away, but the Cossie canes them AND is practical. This is why I have kept it as a toy (to annoy any snobs in their "slow" cars http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif). However, 4wd is for girls (thought you would know that by now http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif), which is why I have stuck with 2wd. With regard to 420bhp, it is easily possible in a Cossie (but most claims are billy bullsh!t). My last one was that power (35psi to achieve it http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif ) and my current engine is over 500bhp and over 400lb ft, but this costs £10k to achieve.... Mike R |

500hp and 400lbs of torque for about £10k - now thats whats I call cheap - but surely u want it the other way around - now if I could get 400lbs torque on a Scooby for that amount I'd be well chuffed Hmmmm lets think Basic engine internals £7k ish (ususual bits - Crank, pistons, cam follower set, this and that) Link ECU plus mapping - £1k Exhaust + fit, etc - £0.8k Hybrid VF22 turbo + fit - £1.5k Other crap like ait filters, dump valves, boost gauge, etc - £1k Uprated clutch = fit - £0.7k There I've already gone over £10k and the above wont give me 400lbs of torque - more like about 360-370lbs Never mind eh! Sam For the record my care achieved much less than 270lbs with a VF22 turbo - but thats before we palyed with the ignition advance - a little faster now - but still a pitifully slow car |

People seem to think that by sticking on a modified ECU, Link or otherwise will give MEGA power increases. Well I can tell U it wont. Of course this has nothing to do with the basic head design and configuration of the engine....No cause it doesnt. It also has nothing to do with the fact that getting past a TRUE 300bhp is abit of a brick wall (in money terms)....No cause it doesnt. And of course the small fact that the only subarus that enter (that stick a butchers chance against anything else!!) the rallying scene (up to the level of John Felsteads team, cant remember what level it is?!) are ex-works cars, cause they CANT match the competiveness of ESCORT COSSIES without spending 100K!!!!! I am not stating that Powerstations rollers are THE BEST in the world, but I bet ya, they are one of the most accurate ones out there! The only way to get a true figure is by having the car bench dynoed, but I bet the Powerstation figures arnt far off! For some reason people dont seem to like low figures (even if they are more accurate!), thus stating that the rollers are cack! The reason for a Sapphire is because the shell is a million miles more rigid than the three-door's hatch back can ever be, and if you put the same power engine in a Sapphire as in an Escort, the Sapphire will cane the Escort (which is as aerodynamic as a brick http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif). Harvey is very competitively priced - all the other major tuners want considerably more (GGR - £15k!). Besides, the Cossie engine does not need any special internals, they are all off the shelf, standard items. The only thing that is different is the ported head (£1k), cams (£300), low compression pistons (£430) and WRC tri-metallic head gasket (£300). The rest is standard RS500 stuff....
