What mobile phone are you currently using and why would you recommend it?

Guess what I'm having to do at the moment........... yep choose a new phone and because I've been happy with my 5 year old brick, mobile technology has fcuked off into the distance :lol1: and I haven't got a clue. I figured that rather than just post a ..............."which phone is best" type thread, a review type thread may be better.

So, what have ya got? :D

ChefDude 30 March 2006 12:35 PM

sony ericsson V600i

it's ****e.

get a 6230i. it does what is says on the tin. really well too. wish i had one :(

King RA 30 March 2006 12:41 PM

6230i here, cannot fault it.

Tiggs 30 March 2006 12:46 PM

i use an Imate Jam for work (tiny pocket PC based phone that runs all normal PC apps......like a mini ipaq+ phone)

and just got a Razor3i for social.....nice and smart looking and thats all i need (a 2meg camera and mp3s doesnt get me excited as i have an ipod and a 2meg camera from 1992 in the loft if i want to take crap pics)

Had a few over the last few months which are:

T-Mobile MDA II - like an o2 xda, very full featured but just too big as a phone, plus look a dick using it IMHO
Nokia 6260 -nokias flip phone, was ok but runs symbian OS so everything is a little slower, felt very cheap and flimsy.
Motorola V3 - very stylish, slim and lightweight, just motorolas software sucks and I couldnt live with it
Now got a 6120 that I have had for a while and I love it. Why? Its kinda like going back to the 6310i which was and still is a superb phone. Its simple, has a colour screen and bluetooth but no fancy $hit like cameras and as a result it will go a whole week without charging. It does what you need a phone to do, make and receive calls, period!

"T-Mobile MDA II - like an o2 xda,"

Imate jam is like a mini version of this, i also had an XDA and an XDA2 and size was always too big - mini solves this and makes symbian (sp?) software look like a waste of time if you ever hook up to a pc.

ScoobyJawa 30 March 2006 01:13 PM

spv c550 and its fine :)

Jonathan Davies 30 March 2006 01:16 PM

Motorola RAZR V3 - a year old now. Smallish, lightish, stylish ;-)

All I want is flip phone that's not too big in the pocket. Don't care about other stuff.

It works fine for me - might upgrade to the newer V3i in fact, cos most new phones look a bit big, ugly and complicated to me.

MattOz 30 March 2006 01:19 PM

Got a Nokia 6310i. It has bluetooth and that's about it. It was the only 'phone that Nokia recommended for business use, until they stopped manufacturing it.

Most of the phones that have cameras, MP3 players, blah blah blah are pathetic at actually being a phone, and their lifespan is short to say the least.

Nokia 6100.

Recommended if you hate mobile phones, camera phones,PDA's,ringtones, text messaging, one hour battery life, hanging screens, crazy frog and competing with 11 year olds.

And its light in the pocket

Edit.Same feelings as above post

StratosWRC 30 March 2006 01:32 PM

Orange SPV C500 + 1gb card (with tomtom5 + looodsa mp3s 'n stuff)
well over 12mths old, but wouldnt swap it....:thumb:

RichWalk 30 March 2006 01:39 PM

I wo*k from a local phone box across the road Mikey, I then use other phones when out & about.

TonyG 30 March 2006 01:40 PM

Nokia 3310 which I've had for a few years. I can make calls on it, and I can send texts. When I eventually get round to replacing it, I'll be in the same boat as you are now.

andy97 30 March 2006 01:51 PM

motorola v3x, dont buy it rubbish battery life, going back to my faithful 6310i

Should show as "storage card" using activesync then just drag 'n drop..

ScoobyJawa 30 March 2006 02:33 PM

On my C550 if I fire up the camera and go into Menu -> Options -> General, You can specify in there that it saves pictures and video to the storage card :)

Duck_Pond 30 March 2006 02:38 PM

Mikey - this seems suited for you

mattstant 30 March 2006 02:46 PM

6230i here as well mikey.
its not too flash but crucially the camera, mp3 player, fm radio and voicerecorder all work perfectly.
I have a 1gig mmc card in it as well which works most of the time if it is reinstalled a couple of times although to be fair it doesnt "officially" support 1 gig cards and its a cheap one.
the mp3 player is surprisingly good as is the camera

stevebt 30 March 2006 03:00 PM

sony ericsson P910i but im waiting for the newer P990i to be release in may then i will get that, the reception is excellent it stores hundreds of txts. does sat nav and is a little games machine as well, it does mp3 its 3g and has a 2mp camera and i work in a really dusty enviroment which normally kills most phones but these just dont seem to be affected :D

Scoobychick 30 March 2006 03:02 PM

Good old faithful Motorola V3 RAZR which I love because of it's size and pocketability although I'm tempted to upgrade to the V3i.

Orange SPV M5000 PDA which does everything except take the dog for a walk and is perfect for accessing the internet/emails/diary/listening to MP3s whilst out and about.

Hanslow 30 March 2006 03:33 PM

I'm still trying to use up the credit on my 3510i but I don't phone people so it's taking ages! Bought a second hand k700i off here, got it unlocked so I could use it on O2, but the reception is pap in our house in the back of beyond :( My Nokia at least gets a signal in a few rooms and allows me to hold a conversation, but the SE doesn't even find the network :(

I'm thinking of changing to a new Nokia. I really need to know signal reception is good on a phone now though before buying it, and the only way I can try is to get one in the house and see if it works. This could turn out expensive :(

oobster 30 March 2006 03:35 PM

Nokia 6230 - easy to use, never hangs and has never caused me one bit of hassle or frustration. Mrs has got one too, and hers is the same - great wee phone.

Mark Miwurdz 30 March 2006 04:33 PM

Another 6230 vote. I have a 6310i car kit fitted (CARK-91) and you can get a pop-port shoe conversion which means the 6230 can use all the internal gubbins.

Great little phone by why-oh-why did Nokia stop making the 6310? Best business phone ever.

Cheers
Kav

Dr Hu 30 March 2006 04:35 PM

I have an iMate KJam - good phone BUT only if you need internet & email - if this is not a requirement buy a simpler phone, mainly for battery life.

Can also vouch for the Nokia 6310i - they are like gold dust at our place - no-one wants to give them up, and there is a waiting list for people who want them back!

Amazed that Nokia don't remake it, or make another business orientated phone in the same vein.

EXSCOOBY 30 March 2006 05:38 PM

ewwwwww the nokia 6310i
reps phone
ages old and thankfully history
why the hell would you want one of these now

Marky-San 30 March 2006 06:27 PM

I have 6230i - good weee phone, but want a sony ericsson 810i now. Or the nokia 6280.
