which holds more value? P1 or Sti bugeye?

hi guys

will be buying a scoob again in this week and been thinking of 2 scoobs...
they are both the same price and their specs :

2001 (Y reg) STI bugeye JDM
38k miles
TEK3 1.6bar 330/330
no FSH

2001 (X reg) P1
70k miles
full STI 9 short block with new pistons, valves, crank...etc. Done 4kmiles sice rebbuild
ECUTEK'd 300+ bhp
6pots front brakes
FSH

if they are both the same price which will hold their value better?? if i was goin to sell it in 1 year?? need some serious advice

many thanks
kevin

P1 every day of the week now that both fall into the same price bracket.

nik52wrx 26 March 2006 06:24 PM

Based on prices i have seen it would have to be the P1.

I knew you would be back mate :D

Tough decision P1 is a lovely motor :thumb: , has to be a bug eye though, but then again i'm bias :D

*AL* 26 March 2006 06:37 PM

I considered getting that very P1 before deciding on getting my WRX 'Blobeye'
I just prefer the newage look.

Sti_Pete 26 March 2006 06:37 PM

Definitely P1 m8, beats the looks of a bug eye aswell.

Tempting, but i'm loving it too much ;)

Good luck with the hunt, no chance of getting your bug back for old time sake? :norty:

With the P1, I personally, would avoid the high mileage even though it's had a rebuild, your choice though :thumb:

As an indication - my P1 is Sept 2000, owned by me from new, 42K miles, cost £31K. Value now circa dunno but guessing around £14Kish or approx 45% of original value -- not too shabby for a 5.5 year old car...

Even including tek 3 and Alcon big brakes at around £2K additional cost still gives 42%+ residual.

Done well so far, but harder question is from now on.

p1doc 27 March 2006 11:34 AM

p1 every time

have heard that about 'dem evos

Davey P 27 March 2006 02:14 PM

I think a P1 will hold it's value better as it's a special edition.

scoobynutta555 27 March 2006 03:55 PM

P1 all day long!

That is a different proposition - a different car to drive - certainly doesn't do everything for you like an EVO, but very rewarding to drive when you get it right (but not if you get it wrong  ) More hardcore than a P1, but would be my choice (especially with the low miles and much rarer in the UK - prob about 10 max - referring to the Ltd models here - my mistake - will be lots more non Ltd version 6 Type Rs).

I would prefer the P1 over the bugeye - as I used to own one for 2 years.

Just on resale value alone though, I would think they are pretty evenly matched - maybe the P1 will edge it - but only a couple of hundred quid in it IMHO after 12 months.

Out of all 3 I'd take the Type R at the right price and colour - you can't beat Sonic Blue on a classic. :D:D:D

Scooby Wagon 27 March 2006 06:00 PM

P1 deffo :D
