As I understand it most "normal" insurance companies only do yearly policies....I asked a broker the same question recently and got that answer....but...there are some that give pro rata refunds....so you could insure for a year, then take car off the road and ask for a refund...which should be in proportion to the unused time left on the policy....The problem is finding a company that gives a reasonable quote AND will allow refund of policy...without a stupid penalty clause!...

Can you guarantee it won't get stolen during winter? I wouldn't take the risk personally.

i dont insure it in case it gets stolen...... who cares, its only a car, trust me its under mega lock and key, just seems pointless it costing a fortune to insure and being stood around!

Be careful with the 10 month policies Phil,

The Insurer providing the 10 month (accelerator) policy guarantees to allow a 1 year NCB at the end, but the rest of the market do not provide such a guarantee (for someone elses product) and are under no obligation to allow a year's (12mth) NCB for 10 months.

So, to be safe when considering switching to another Insurer you'll need to let them know that the prior policies were for 10 months, rather than 12 months.

Sorry Birty,

We only offer 12 months policies.

An alternative solution would be to take a 12 month policy on a Limited mileage basis.

You will receive a concession for limiting the mileage and this type of policy would allow your vehicle to be covered all year for damage/theft, in addition to permitting use if required (ie sunny winter day) throughout the whole year.

The only restriction would be the mileage you choose, which can be altered mid-term providing you contact your Insurer in advance.

Kind regards

Tony
