Dipstick reading-over full why?

On a classic, why does the oil read way above the max level. Ive been told they all do it, why.... Ive had an oil change and put in exactly 4.5ltrs, it still reads way above the max level:freak3:

It shouldn't do! Perhaps there was residual oil left in after the change? Did you measure the oil with the car level?

i have this same problem. just generally hard to get a good reading. I was told to blow down there first. lol.. not tried it yet...

I have found the best way is to pull the dip stick out, wipe it, and leave it out for 5 mins to let the oil that was dragged up the tube run back out.
You should then get a clear indication.

the car has to be perfectly flat even if its alittle bent it will give you the wrong reading it happened to me i checked it and it showed empty i think moved the car and it showed the right amount its weird.
