You say the current 7D ECU is chipped? What chip does this ECU have fitted?
The 6K ECU will not perform any different from your current ECU if you fit the chip ;)
When J1 (link) is cut on the main board in the ECU this makes the 'additional' Eprom (chip/s) be read rather than the integral map ;)

Cheers

this is true, but the chip i have dont seem to be working like that. the ecu with the chip does seem to go alot quicker with early boost ect, even kick over 265 bhp. but whats dodgy is when the j1 was cut. it dident work. i tryed taking the chip out. but you can tell the difference, this is why im trying to find out if this 6k ecu is any good compaired to what ive got. thanks anyway.:norty:

6K is an STi 2 ECU. Are you sure you had the chip holder/chip soldered in correctly? Sounds like the ecu is not seeing the chip from your second post?

i dont realy now, this is why im trying to get another ecu to take its place. but ive just found out that this ecu is an import. which is bad, cut at 112mph. uses 100ron fuel. any one now if these things can be changed cheap. so runs on 97ron + cut higher.

there's a group buy for a chip that fits a classic that up's the fuel cut and lets you run 16.5 psi boost

and is set up to run 98octane fuel

looks & sound good, but after this chip i have already. i realy want to try & get a better ecu. specialy as i have a bigger turbo, custom airfilter set up, bigger injectors, full decat, four branch, wrx ra intercooler. all i mainly want it a little more boost, with as its got an early boost to. at the moment its over boosting alot. when i put my foot down that is, this is coused by the chip. thanks for the link matey..:thumb:

Your not making much sense!
It will not matter what ecu you use becuase once the chip is installed and enabled properly the speed limiter be be remove anyway. In fact UK cars dont run an electronic speedo - they use a cable (i think).
Yes a 6K ecu is an import ecu and will work in that car with or without the chip.
However i would not recomend using it without the chip as the map on the main board is designed for an STI set up with a stronger engine and high octain fuel. Use it with your chip and it will set the car up for what ever fuel the chip is set up for.

ive desided to ditch the 6k, but im now looking at a v6 fitted to a prodrive. ive also been talking to a tuner about chips, if i can get a sutable ecu for my car & have it chiped with a good quality chip. the car should run and feel great. just need to find a good uk ecu for my car...
so anyone now about the v6.:norty:
