Getting a key cut...
I've got a 99 UK Classic with a key and separate alarm fob (std jobby). I went to get a key cut and the guy reakons the keys have encoders built in so I'll need to go to Subaru? I thought all the encoding was done by the plipper?

Nope your car will also have a transponder chip in the key.

Great....expensive? I presume they're only available from Subaru?

On the 99MY the separate Radio Key operates the Standard UK fit Sigma M30 which immobilises 2 circuits and gives the vehicle Cat 1 certification. However, the vehicle also has a factory fitted transponder immobiliser which is operated from a chip within the ignition key housing - the other circuits provided by the M30 are required as the factory system does not meet Thatcham approval.
