Please help..ill scoob
MY93 WRX seems to have developed a fault over the last few days.
it seems to be holding back alot, 90% of the time it is like this, and it seems to have got worse over the past few days..... the turbo is spinning but there is a defintate lack of boost/pull. as far as i am aware the only mods is an exhaust system, 65k on the clock and recently serviced...HELP! thanks |
mine has been doing the same thing caused by the car pinking david at api says it is probably the coil packs or plugs do u have any pinking problems do u hav4e knocklink or it could be ur boost solenoid needing cleaned
|
car has just been serviced, so has new plugs, dont have a knock link.....
how much are coil packs and how would i check the boost solonoid ? would a session on a rolling road help me out ? cheers. |
coil packs are about £220 for the four i have a 95 wrx and i had same problem does the car run fine then as u go up the gears the boost seems to die and then stay like that for ages where abouts do u live england ,scotland
|
stay in fife scotland. car runs fine but just has no pull ?
where are you mate ? |
does solenoid click when you hold revs at about 1600rpm
|
Coils can get damaged during a plug change if they are on there way out. Pull the rubber bung of the plug end and you may find that the plastic of the coil pack is cracked or worst case falling off.
Also check the plug gaps, they should be no larger then 0.7mm. |
i am in glasgow where is ur nearest rolling road do u have a boost gauge is the car still getting all the boost mine runs fine too just at reduced boost due to coils i also had my solenoid cleaned
|
will check the solonoid- is this in front of the drivers strut- next to the airbox ?
Sorry car has no boost gauage- was thinking of going to AWD in Perth. |
yeah that is where solenoid is it is gold/bronze AWD they are pretty expensive it sounds like same problem as i am haveing i would say it is coils or solenoid DO NOT GO to AVA in paisley for rolling road they have no idea what they are doing with scoobys they wanted to put low compression pistons in mine to cure problem at a cost os £2500 COWBOYS

try the engine room in motherwell recommended by API impreza they know there stuff
|
close your plug gap to 0.6-0.65mm that sometimes helps if the coil packs arn't too bad.
|
scott my plugs are set at 0.8 is this gap too big
|
0.7 is the recommended gap by the guys who tune them daily. It does sound like coil packs, is it okay lower in the rev range but once you get higher does it hold back then?
Personally, I wouldnt try a rolling road unless they were a scoob specialist, it would be very easy to get engine damage |

Closing spark plug gaps is a fallacy. A weak spark will jump a small gap easily but if you INCREASE THE GAP then it needs a much stronger spark to leap the gap.
