sensors for S.E.C.S unit?
 

Just purchased a S.E.C.S PSI3 and need to fit the sensors for the oil temp/pressure guages any one done this and whats needed please?
How do these connect into the unit as well please?

You need to buy the Defi sensors, they connect into the terminal block at the rear, if you don't have the manual then I think there is a pdf of it on the website. They aren't cheap. You'll need to make up an extension loom to go from the sensor back to the Psi unit.

Thanks for that, i take it there is no chance of using a swandwich plate to mount the sensors instead of connecting to the engine block?
Are the Defi ones the only ones you can use?

i think that u can only use the defi ones as i got mine direct from the manufacturer of the s.e.c.s unit. What do u mean by sandwich plate?

Used inbetween the oil filter and mount to house the senders of the oil pressure and temp sensors, instead of the usual places on the block.

i don't think so i had to mount the defi oil temp sensor above cylinder 3 (i think) there is a bung that u unscrew then just screw the sensor in its place.

Yes you can use a sandwich plate, the STi kit (which is STi badged Defi stuff) is supplied with sandwich plate ready for install.

The data unit is callibrated to use the defi sensors, so any sensor using the same acllibration can, in theory, work.

Best stick to the Defi ones then as that whats its set up for, will i be able to purchase a loom for connection to the s.e.c.s unit and will i be able to get the parts needed from any defi dealer? I`ve a service due soon so just as well get the bits now ready for fitting when the oil filter is changed.

The Oil Temperature / Pressure kits we sell come complete with everything you need for the install, including the loom and OEM Subaru adaptor for the oil temp. sensor.

We also have the Greddy Oil Filter sandwich plates in stock if you prefer to mount it that way, as Bob has said there are pdf downloads on our website for the install and connection of sensors.

I've owned a SECS for a few years now and just recently upgraded it with the addition of the Defi oil pressure/temp sensors.

No need for the sandwich plate in my opinion - unless you were already planning an oil change?

Oil temp is an intercooler off job - remove the 8mm blanking allen plug above cylinder 3. Screw in the adaptor bung and then the Defi temp sensor.

Oil pressure - remove the existing sensor just behind the alternator and replace with the Defi unit.

The wires that come with each sensor were more than long enough to get to the back of the SECs unit.

Follow the guide off the PSI3 website - the stubby spanners recommended for the oil pressure sensor are definitely needed and save you taking the alternator off.

I have big hands and limited mechanical experience but managed the job easily. Wiring is also easy and I got the sensors and adaptor bung from xtreme scoobies for £184 delivered.

the sandwich adapter seems to be the easiest way to go.

that was the one thing that put me off getting secs monitor,having to pay for extra sensors and labour to fit-it all seemed to mount up.
i am sure power engineering told me the oil presssure switch had to be weded in! in order to get accurate reading

Welded in!? I hope not!? I can't see why, the only reason I could imagine is if the thread didn't seal against the block properly as standard (which it does - these are Defi sensors guys).

Understand the cost argument however even using cheap gauges the price versus amount of information given by the SECS with those 2 additional sensors is still favourable. I was quoted over £900 just for Defi controller, boost, oil temp and pressure gauges & fitting - 3 parts of engine info. My SECs cost about £300 and the two other sensors about £185. I fitted myself so less than £500 quid and I have so much more information about what the engine is doing. Surely the SECs pathway isn't too bad...??

Secs unit is great though, handy for injector duty, ignition timing, fault codes, knock correction, water injection etc... :)

that is what i was told by power engineeering! i was as surprised as you,i take it secs monitor is second hand if not where did you get such a good deal

I'm also wondering if this is true; a friend of my has a PSI3 and wants to 'upgrade' it with oil temp/pressure gauges, but the Defi sensors are terrible expensive...
Has anyone a sollution for this?

(sorry for my bad English writing, but I'm from the Netherlands..)

we have only ever used/ tested Defi sensors, but others may work.
