Is a chipped headlamp an Mot failure?

Just noticed that one of my headlamps has a tony chip in it and small cracks. The MoT is coming up - will this be a fail?

Yes, if they spot it and it's affecting the light output

I've sealed one using clear silicone sealer and smoothed it with my finger and they never noticed :)

One of mine has a tiny chip on it but no cracks and it's never been spotted.
I would guess yours is more noticeable than mine though :(

It will only fail if it affects the beam pattern or allows the headlight to steam up, therefore affecting the beam pattern.

Dunk 27 December 2005 11:55 PM

P1 Sonic is correct, it's only if the beam pattern is impaired. (I've passed an MOT with a bullet hole in my headlight for the last 5 years !)
