Nero - setting CD writing speed

Hello

I am using Nero v7.0.0.0 on a Windows XP SP2 machine.

I am trying to write some audio CDs that are created from MP3s. I want to record them at 2x speed, but it only gives me the option to record at a minimum of 8x speed. If I burn a playlist in Media Player or iTunes then it will let me burn down to 1x speed, so i know the burner will do it. I cant find any settings in Nero to change so I can go lower than 8x speed. Anyone know anything I can try (any config files that can be edited ???) ?

Have you run the separate Nero CD-DVD Speed program? Sometimes you need to do that before it'll let you use the full range of drive speeds.

Does it make any real difference especially coming from Mp3's?

Isn't it 1 and 0 anyway so how does the speed it's burned matter?

just interested :)

I want to record them at 2x speed
 300kb's , That is very slow mate , if your burning from your drive then nero will do it @ 16x with no probs @ all . Im not 100% sure but i think you will find that the newer version's of nero will not go that slow :wonder: , iv got 6.3.1.6 & the slowest that will go is 4x but all mine ( mp3-cdr ) will go @ 16x with no probs .... maybe worth a try mate only a disk if it dont work for ya's :thumb:

The faster i write them, the more the tracks skip when they are played. 2x is the only speed that i have found that always burns audio tracks that dont skip.

Something wrong with your burner then. I can burn MP3 to audio at 52x without a glitch.

how old is the player you are playing them in. May be the laser isn't that strong for cd-r disks and burning slower helps it read them. MP3's wont sound brilliant whatever speed you burn them. And ignore people who say 192K/bit is cd quality......IT ISNT!!!! cd'd run at 1400Kbit/s ish. Thing is PC writers these days really dont seem the need for these slow speeds anymore

I have no problems burning MP3s at 52x. Sounds like the media unless you need a patch from Nero.

As above I use the max speed on the discs I buy. Get some decent discs and maybe a new burner if yours is not burn proof, ie a very old burner.

As an after thought. Have you tried finding an updated firmware for your burners? Some firmware upgrades allow burners to use different brands of media properly. Try here:
