UP pipe fitting for a MY02 wrx

hi guys,

i have a HKS up pipe to be fitted to MY02 wrx

just wanted to find out how much i should be looking to pay to get it fitted?

i was told by someone that in would take about 4 hours labour to get it on, is that roughly correct?

i also wanted to know if the are complications in fitting/using different exhaust component? ie different brand up pipe, down pipe, centre section an muffler.

any advive would be grrrreat.

cheers

nick

I've had a quote for £75 plus vat to fit one on my '01 WRX, 3 hours labour at £25..

Believe all the aftermarket and OE exhaust parts are interchangable unless you are buying something of a different bore..

cheers mate,

where abouts was that quote from?

is it better to keep a 2.5" or 3" bore all the way through?

at the mo i've just got a prodrive back box, but i'd want to change that in the future anyway.

Nick, the downpipe has to be removed in order to fit anothe rup-pipe, so if you've not changed that, but are planning on doing so, why not do it all in one go??

AsianGunner 06 November 2005 11:24 PM

i'm going to be doing it all together, istill need to buy the down pipe tho,

there is a company on ebay selling manifolds for all model subaru's, an that has a up pipe fitted to it already, if you know what on i mean, are they any good?

their the ones advertised as HKS "style" manifolds

Just dont fall into the trap i did recently, was quoted around £100 to fit, which i thought was fine. When i returned to collect was given bill for over £200, due to every gasket being changed also.

£100 for gaskets

^^ Hmmm, I've seen an up-pipe fitting kit with the studs and gaskets for £33 IIRC..

Obviously i didnt, I did feel a little pi$$ed off at this, but the company that did it are trustworthy so took it on the chin.

Scoobyclinic:

£125 up & down pipe fitted ~4hrs.

Top job..!

Can get siezed nuts/studs and then it can be hell to do. The Clinic know the score and @£25/hr you can't go wrong IMHO..!

BTW worth wrapping them BEFORE fitting..!;)

Hmm i hadnt thought of wrapping yet, i have had up and down pipe fitted now, is it worth trying to wrap them now, and what would be the benefits compared to the effort required.

Also my up pipe has slip joint would this effect wrapping

And how much would it cost?

Cheers

Cookie :)

I'm booked in at S'clinic this Fri, just having the up-pipe fitted, not decided on the heat wrap as yet, they do it for £25 plus VAT and use the H & S pipe which is slip jointed so no problems there..

AFAIK wrapping does a couple of things 1. retains the heat in the pipe so gasses are hotter and move quicker...
2. reduces the amount of heat rising into the engine bay

Thats a bit steep , considering I just got a full set ( from heads to downpipe incl. ) from a Main Dealer for £60....
