BROOKS1E 03 October 2005 12:14 AM

YES thats what i was thinking :)

You can even say you are doing a (small) bit towards renewable energy use, since Tesco's 99 octane is 5% bioethanol (from sugar beet).

BrynO 04 October 2005 08:52 AM

^^ I won't feel so bad about drving a car that does 23 MPG then, LOL ^^

I'll second that motion. :)

Weve just got it at Tescos extra on the A14 near Cambridge. Still 99.9p though.

Esso may well supply some fuels to Tesco but thats does not mean that 99RON is supplied by them.

Texaco, Total and BP also supply Tesco with fuels, and it is all the same as the majors sell, the 99RON comes from an independent fuel storage depot that imports fuel in mainly from Europe(the place that has Shell V Power)

I am trying to find out more info on whether it is refined 99 as is Optimax(98.6RON) or if it is boosted with an octane booster, have heard that it contains 5% Bioethenol, also hope to get some engine ratings done to find out what the RON really is.

Regarding the bioethanol part, there is this:
http://www.greenergy.com/motorsport/rally_cars.html
and
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pre...12/earth.shtml
and plenty more references on Google.

However, going much beyond 5% ethanol isn't such a good idea - these links from Subaru and Mazda in Australia:
