Puff The Magic Wagon! 25 September 2000 12:26 AM

Hi Folks!

I'm sure you will be glad to hear that PTMW! is now the proud owner of an STi CF Strut Brace (like the pic below) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Thank you all for your support & encouragement & Strut Aid & emails etc. I will now SHUT UP about it http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

I will post a picture of it actually on PTMW! when I get a moment with a spanner - until then, it's hanging on the wall in my office http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Thank god you've finally got one Puff! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Tell us how much of a difference it makes when you've fitted it...might have to get one myself!

Stef 25 September 2000 02:01 PM

The first mod on my car was a Sparco alloy strut brace, which really sharpened up the turn-in.
Only cost £50 as well, which is what....£450 cheaper than a new STi one? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Is it as good/light/strong as the S/brace's fitted to the Audi S3?

Can anyone help? (i think you know who i mean)

harryh 25 September 2000 05:31 PM

Paul, are you after an honorary 6SSK badge or something? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Puff The Magic Wagon! 25 September 2000 09:31 PM

Paul

It is QUALITY KIT http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Look at the picture - that is top-notch carbon fibre & ally. Well light - well sexy http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Didn't know they fitted one to the S3 - probably made at Krupps tho', not Aeroplane Division of FHI http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

GRANT 25 September 2000 09:49 PM

Is it worth the money ? can you really notice any difference.

Stef,
Just a quick question did you fit the strut brace before having the bump steer done or after.

Strut braces CAN be worth the $$ - but only if you drive the car hard...

if you drive like a grandma... then they are just eye candy...

i know of 2 rally Subies here in the states that drove without them and cracked their windscreens...

when i removed mine last (about 4 weeks ago)
it was literally BENT... so if you drive hard, yes, the strut bar will help immensley w/cornering.

Its only meeeeee

Dont waste your money or time with an STI carbon one.

They are pooooh.

Get yourself a cheaper steel one.. like omp.. or sparco... these are far stronger and work.

IMHO...Tension it up first with the car level... and off off the ground...

And before anyone asks... yes I have tried both versions (Carbon and Steel). http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

To add to J's post, I use the STi pink/aluminium competition braces front and rear and these made a very noticeable difference to the cars behaviour. These are excellent and work extremely well. The front brace is adjustable and the rear made a huge difference to my Wagon.

If I were you puff I would seriously consider the rear brace as you have a wagon like me which don't have a solid rear bulkhead so a rear brace is even more effective!! Improved turn in...less understeer...more consistet and predictable in cornering and generally a stiffer car all round!! These are one of my favourite mods on my car.

So maybe we haven't heard the end of you yet puff, you can post loads more now for a rear brace!!lol. Although they don't make a carbon one!!

Regards
Nito

Stef 26 September 2000 12:43 AM

Oh well, never mind eh Puff? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Grant.
As I said, it was the first mod I did to my car. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Puff.
How much?

Stef.

Puff The Magic Wagon! 26 September 2000 01:57 PM

Well, I'm happy http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

(Doesn't take a lot to please me tho' http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif )

I think her indoors might notice the rear one, tho' I might be coming up with a cunning plan to avoid any such discovery http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

BTW - Anyone got a rear STi Strut Brace for sale?
