Quality lookin' motor mate ... v.nice

leonpoole 14 September 2005 09:02 PM

How easy was that intercooler to fit as im debating weather to fit one to my classic

p1mark 14 September 2005 09:22 PM

not particularly TBH. its a fair bit of messing to get it right, and there is also a bit of work on the undertray and scoop to get the full effect.

you do all that, and its still not as good as a FMIC. if you are going for a bit of horsepower dont bother, mines got maybe 370-380 and the IC is not fully up to the job.

Mark, after having my WRX mapped by Andy F and speaking to him about the IC you and I both have then over 400HP seems do-able. He also said that on the move they are as good as most FMIC's.

Graham (911) had his at 407HP

What are you doing about the strut brace? Does the STI carbon brace fit or not?

Wayne.

Wayne,

have a butchers here mate. i know others have been fine, and i need to have a little look at the airflow again but im not convinced at the mo. had a little discuss with floyd the other day

http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=456370

the strutbrace does not fit, im currently making a new one. could probably get the sti one on with a bit of butchery but trying to avoid it. some bits of the car are a little bit work in progress.

Very nice indeed.... you have spent some time on that for sure.

He's the only person I know who takes the engine out of the car to clean it. ;)

Looking very nice Mark. :)

The scoop looks an abortion.

kilo_4que 15 September 2005 01:06 AM

have u had the manifold repainted, as it looks untouched

im wanting my engine bay to look the same but need to change pratically everything such as the washer bottle etc as they are manky looking when up close

DanniGT 15 September 2005 02:17 AM

I just LOVE it! great job :)

p1mark 15 September 2005 07:14 AM

PMSL at iwan:) :hjtwofing

bubba, i totally agree with you that the scoop looks an abortion, but trying to get the full benefit of the IC. if i put a FMIC on it will be straight off.

i rebuilt the engine in may of this year. while i was doing it, i also did the painting, cleaning, blinging up of the bay including the manifold and stuff.

the engine pics were taken shortly after that, but i do give it a clean regular and it still looks pretty much the same, even though the car gets used daily whatever the weather. it has 66K on now

i was just wondering wheather i could get mine to look the same. Im willing to buy bits n bobs as i go along though. I was actually looking forward to replacing all the bottles n pipes etc with some samco bits. Heres a pic of my engine bay.

basically yes, there are a few things you can do that make a massive difference. the painting, samco, and goodridge make a difference obviously but there are subtle things that you dont notice so much that tidy it up no end.

all the brackets arond the engine bay i have powder coated black or silver. paint will be ok for this. all the bolts have been replaced with stainless, paint your pulleys if you dont want to splash out. just a bit of atention to detail goes a long way. when you have done, go mad with the CD2 and you wont be far off.

the manifold i painted myself, in fact ive not paid a bean to anyone other than for parts. the car blew up in april and was back on the road in june, during that time as well as building and tuning the motor, all the engine bay and installs were done. it was basically all standard before then, so it does not take long to get your engine bay tidied up.

some good info there mark, would it be possible to go into detail a lil more on request pls LOL

firstly i was actually thinking of replacing the manky pully wheel things with them jazzy blue/purple ones,

Now regarding the pulling out of you engine, i believe you have experience in this before hand??

Ive always loved to have been able to pull out a subaru engine n play with it but it may prove a little costly if something goes wrong with mine as im not much of a mechanic.

C2forWRX 17 September 2005 01:48 PM

I think you need bigger brakes man. they are tiny.... :Whatever_ :Whatever_ :Whatever_

jameswrx 17 September 2005 02:40 PM

Looks great, love the brakes and the engine bay especially.

Don't like the scoop, but see it's got good reason with the bigger intercooler.

Have you considered going over to the front mount(being as they are so bloody cheap now) You could prob sell your setup and get a front mount and it prob wouldn't end up costing much extra.

Nice work anyway!

p1prodrive 17 September 2005 03:37 PM

so this is where you have been ' showing off ' the motor looking as good as ever mark....top stuff !

matt

fatmanscooby 17 September 2005 05:52 PM

Ask Mark nicely im sure he ll do your Manifold i can highly recommend his workmanship;)

p1mark 17 September 2005 09:13 PM

FMIC is a distinct possibility, as the top mount seems to be struggling a bit. the brakes are 356 AP discs with alcon racing calipers.

FMS, cheers, i think:p

s.g.d 18 September 2005 02:43 AM

where did you get that alternator and power steering belt cover?

also, where did you get the radiator shroud?

very nice car, with extremely nice brakes.
