350 miles on 50lts, is the a record?

Since my PPP was done on my 52 Bugeye WRX my fuel economy has been awsome. Before I was getting about 26mpg now is over 30, is this normal?

TonyBurns 25 July 2005 06:04 PM

During the running in period on my first scoob, i got nearly 400 miles before the light came on to fill up, so thats pretty good with 350 ;) new car does 250 on a long run to approx 50ltrs.

Tony:D

Phil555 25 July 2005 06:08 PM

I've just had 346 miles from £40 in MY00 classic before the light came on.
Phil.

These figures seem pretty good. I drove from Hull to Exeter in my '03 wrx on one tank, over 350 miles. Is everyone aware that the tank is actually 60 litres capacity in new age car and when fuel light comes on you still have 10 litres left.

I needto drive with my slippers on to get 300 miles on a tank:freak3:

GaryCat 25 July 2005 07:37 PM

I regularly get over 330 miles to a tank (with about 5 litres to spare) in my 03WRX at 80-90 on the motorways.

I believe pslewis is still on same the tank of petroleum oil as when he bought his car. Sadly though he is bracing himself for a trip to the new fangled self service filling stations within the next year or so.

Well I just worked out my mpg for the first time yesterday on my 05 STi uk PPP. Had it now 2 months. Thought it was pretty crap. I was right I'm getting 15.6mpg. That's taking it easy going to work (why rush) and then giving it a bit on the way back. I think I'll start to take it a bit easier from now on, unless I'm in a rush or having fun. At today's prices 15.6mpg seam's a little expensive for just going to work & back. Must take it easier.
Having said that I never got over 20mpg in my Focus RS.

It's these bloody shoes. I swear they have lead in them.

Yes, I know, yawn another MPG thread.......however 350 miles is about average for a wrx i would have thought, if you dont put your foot down.

Mike Wood has stated on previous posts that PPP improves mpg on long runs. However since i got the PPP, the mpg has gone down.

But I get everywhere much quicker:notworthy

mart360 25 July 2005 09:45 PM

bugger me and i thought 660 miles on 48 litres was poor...

M :D

lordharding 25 July 2005 10:51 PM

And I thought I was doing well with 200 to the tank

Is this the scooby Deasel forum ?

Volvo V70 D5 towing a 1000kg trailer manages nearly 50mpg!!!

Bugeye WRX having been driven averagely about 25mpg.

Hmmmmm

JPS3290 25 July 2005 11:10 PM

Had a good back road drive the other night combined with 50 miles of sensible driving on my 02 STI and £40 of fuel got me 200 miles. Think thats about 20 mpg so not bad for the fun i had :)

Usually get 70 miles from a tenner.

cookstar 26 July 2005 12:30 AM

I think i may have probs with my car, went to JAE at 70mph all the way there and back, got 265 miles from full tank of optimax.

Surely it should have been more.

FirebirdUK 26 July 2005 07:38 AM

I never seem to get more than 200 miles out of a full tank on my STi :'(

Still, at least there's a pretty girl in my local petrol station :)

Something wrong there mate, got to be. If I do a long motorway run (200miles +)I do it at 70 cos quite simply I cant afford the points on my licence and its too easy to be caught unawares on a mway, its always around 350 before light comes on

paul-s 26 July 2005 12:20 PM

I got exactly 200 miles to 43 quid of optimax last week. That was 80% sensible driving, hardly any boost etc. Surely thats pants, although iv come to expect nothing more ? should i get more miles then ??
what could this be down to ?

sti-04!! 26 July 2005 12:23 PM

Heavy right foot

;)

st3ph3n 26 July 2005 01:07 PM

I filled up last night - 45 litres which had got me 235 miles I think. 23 miles to the Gallon.

Crap.

Same here apart from the pretty girl
Maybe an adjustable boost knob would help when in search of max mpg, ie full and no boost.
Trouble is it would always be on FULL :)

How slow is a scoob with no boost at all? anyone driven a broken one?

dipster

st3ph3n 26 July 2005 08:58 PM

Try a 20mph roll in 4th and then floor it dave.

Mine pulls better now it's had some exhuast work, but it's still not pretty.

pmarch 26 July 2005 09:26 PM

My best four averages so far hover around 32MPG on my UK WRX Bugeye without really trying - which is when the mileage between fills is composed of longer runs of mixed driving, including motorways, A roads, towns, lanes but always using sensible use of the boost when it's worth doing and avoiding pointless acceleration, then having to brake hard a few seconds later.

When the ratio of stop-start and short journeys has increased, my worst has been down to 24MPG.

One of these days, I am going to try - just the once mind - for the big 40MPG. Somehow I don't think it's possible - not least because I'll probably die of boredom keeping to 60MPH and never going over 2400RPM - which some would say is not good for the engine anyway.
