Transferring DHCP From win2k server to win2003 server?
Basically we have a dhcp server running on win2k, and I now want this to be running on win2003.
I presume I will need to resetup all the config on the 2003 scope etc, but I would like to import the already assigned ip addresses. Can this be done? is it as simple as just copying the folder/database where the dhcp info is kept to the new server? any technet kb's on how to do this? where the folder/db is located? |
I've never done it personally but what about a DHCP Backup and restore.
The default path for a DHCP backup is C:\WINDOWS\System32\dhcp\backup. Darren |
I used dhcpexim worked fine for me.
You could upgrade the server then backup the scope then restore to a box... but I wouldnt risk 2k dhcp to 2k3 by just copying the files. David |
Thanks David, looks like the tool i am after :)

can you not just do an adprep then do an upgrade?

2k box is already a dc, and i dont want to install win2003 on it.
Just found this article here for ref "How to move a DHCP database from a computer that is running Windows NT Server 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows Server 2003 to a computer that is running Windows Server 2003" : http://support.microsoft.com/?id=325473 |
