Cheap flights to Norway!

Does anyone know of a budget airline that does flights to Norway or alternativly a cheap ferry!

ta!

I normally fly with SAS - not budget, but then again nothing in Norway is...

I went out on Monday this week, and came back on Tuesday - cost about £280 return. It was as budget as you get, buy your own food, etc...

You want to go to one of the most expensive countries in Europe and you're worried about the cost of the flight?!

I hope you don't like alcohol... ;)

PS: who works for a company based in oslo ...

norwegian airlines go to Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim from Stansted. They fly to Gardermoen in Oslo too, rather than Oslo Torp. God reise :)

Ryan air do a flight to Haugesend from stanstead for about 70 quid!

How far is this place from bergen????

ChrisB 17 June 2005 12:32 PM

If it's the places I just found on a map, about 65 miles direct but there's a lot of fjords in the way!

The Chief 17 June 2005 01:12 PM

O.k. one more question! and earlier post said the alcohol was really expensive - exactly how much?? i'm thinking of doing a weekend in Bergen!

Jap2Scrap 17 June 2005 01:15 PM

Near on £5 a pint the last time I knew someone who went there. That was about 1999.

stevencotton 17 June 2005 01:17 PM

Bergen isn't as bad as Oslo, Bergen is a student town so loads of pubs and places to go. You are looking at anywhere between 3 and 10 quid for a beer, a half litre not a pint, depends where you go. Follow the poor students. A lot of Norwegians (and Scandinavians in general) have a few at home before going out, and most don't go out until 10/11pm.

You can fly Aberdeen to Oslo with http://www.citystarairlines.com for about 255 quid return.
You can fly Prestwick to Torp and it is a 1 hour coach trip from there to Oslo.
If you fly to Oslo it is 20minutes on the express train to the centre.

Fjord lines will take you direct from Newcastle to Bergen but takes approx 24hrs for the passage.

Alcohol: Beer - 60Nok - 0.5 litre Bottle - 33ml - 39 Nok 1 litre bottle - 95 Nok.
Spirits: I havent noticed but I always take my own bottle.

Exchange rate just now is about 12 Nok = 1 GBP

PM me if you want any more details as I am currently assigned in Norway.

Beer in a hotel isn't cheap...

...this week I was paying about £6.50 a half-litre.

Diet coke was £3.50 a bottle, Evian was £2.60 a bottle (small bottle).

If you're thinking of getting a cheaper flight and then a taxi, bear in mind that you're probably looking at about 2 quid a minute to be in a taxi...

Beautiful place though.
