24v or, as I suspect, 12v?

Hi guys

Is this a 24 valve engine as claimed or a 12v as I suspect it to be?
Got to set someone straight on this, although knowing my luck I'll be the one eating humble pie shortly :D

Might help if I mention it's in a Carlton!

12v IMHO

Single OHC Vauxhaull/Opel straight six.

You would not have room for another 12valves under that rocker cover, nedless to say the 24v has two cams

Have a look at

How many litres is the engine?

Could be 2.5, 2.6 or 3.0, IIRC

It is a 12v Carlton GSi 3000..

Is the 12v any good then?

IIRC on the 24 valve ones the plenum comes over the rocker top and in fact I do think it says 24V on the top of the engine, at the front

Might get shot down for this but I do actually rate Vauxhall as they are reliable.....for that money Id snap his hand off......even if the engine went, its only gonna cost you 500 quid as oppose to mine going bang about 3k+

1K for a thrashed to death wreck.

Wonderful ;) :thumb:

You will be lucky to find a nice one now, most thrashed to death.

They where quick and handled well, nice RWD and i have seen 155mph indicated in them before.

A real Q car in their day but that has sadly passed

falkster 09 June 2005 11:38 AM

Not sure if I agree with the handling bit?? My dad had one and it was like a waterbed on wheels.....went like stink but make sure theres no corners

Thinking about it, the last one i went in was Irmisher kitted out, had uprated springs and shockers + different exhaust and spoliers from memory, it was in '93, mate was the DP of a Vauxhall garage in Leicester.

I thought the std one handled OK as well?

Hooligan motor :norty: A lot of power and RWD :)

The 24v is an even bigger beast, though :) :D:D

It sold for £350.. real flurry of activity towards the end of the auction.

Too rich for my blood lol :D
