TomTom GO V5 now downloadable !

With no fanfare, and described as the May 2005 release, TomTom have put their new 5.00 software up.

I just downloaded and installed it, no probs at all. Lots of enhancements, and free....

New maps to follow, but they won't be free.

This is just TomTom GO though as far as I can see, TomTom Navigator 5 for the PDA doesn't seem to have been released yet. Looks like they have sorted a lot of the things out that were buggin me in version 3 though.

Cool  Just downloaded it but to be honest am a bit disappointed that it can't actually drive the car itself yet :( ;) :D

Great news and fantastic timing, I've just used mine to find my way through France so needed to hook it back up for the UK maps anyhow.

The new ones with Bluetooth phone support look a bit tasty!

You know when I think back to a time before I had TomTomGo SatNav and had to rely on map books, asking people for directions along the way, badly positioned road signs, (Liverpool, last time there, doesn't seem to have any!) sometimes just giving up, not being able to find an address, well it feels like something from a different time. A bit like when my parents used to begin a sentence with "You know when I was a child we didn't have those..." :D
Now I arrive at my appointment on time, stress free and relaxed. Some of the outposts I've visited in Cornwall for instance, well no way would I have found them without this little box of tricks.
As for this upgrade. Wow what a bunch of great new features. It just got a whole lot better. I can't believe I'll ever spend a better 400 notes.

TomTom is just great for finding new ways to places you travel to reguarly.

Hell we (me and the wife) tried it when we (she!) first got it... Somewhere nearby... Okay Kedleston Hall.. from Mickleover.

We thought down Station Rd, turn right, Ashbourne Rd, blah, blah, blah.

Nope.

Turn LEFT, follow rd - straight OVER A52 (but you can't!!!! Oh yes you bloody can) etc etc... Incredibly quicker and we didn't even know where we were until we turned the corner and there was the Hall.

Good stuff. :D

Scoobychick 12 April 2005 04:04 PM

Does anyone else play 'Beat the Tom Tom' and try to get the estimated time of arrival down by going a little bit faster? Or is it just me?? :D

Chris L 12 April 2005 09:48 PM

Nope me too - beat it by 6 mins tonight coming back from London City Airport :D :D

SD maps of USA: "Available soon from TomTom.com" :(

How difficult is it to get them up for sale? The US TT GOs ship with the US maps on an SD card...

Crisis over ;) Norton playing silly tw*ts again and screwing it up - works OK with NIS disabled for a couple of minutes :thumb:

Not by default, but you can download free third party POI that have the appropriate icons, I have Shell, BP and Esso. I also have various other bits and bobs.

I ordered v5 upgrade for PDA (Palm) on Friday from tomtom.com (approx 69 euros inc delivery and european maps)
There's a link from the home page (Site seems to be a bit up and down at the mo)
When ordering you need the product code from your original pack.
They send new software - not a download.
