twin scroll turbo

can these work well on a 99/00 year engine and what sort of power/boost levels can be achieved using one of these turbo's

Floyd 25 March 2005 04:34 PM

You'll need the up and down pipes to go with it of course. See Simon Lines thread in projects for details of just this.

ive just read simon's thread. and he reckons he couldnt get more than 12.8 secs 1/4 mile at 2bar  doesnt sound like a turbo i would like

Floyd 25 March 2005 08:50 PM

I think if you really want a drag strip power monster then you either need Mr Wallis to build a cheap mota for you for old cereal packets ;) Or be prepared for big £££'s to get to the 11's and 10's. Just a change of turbo isn't going to get you the results you want IMO but I guess you know that already :(

What power are you after and where will you use it?

might have to take myturbo off for a service, but if its coming off im thinking off adding a new turbo ?????not too bothered on power just want acceleration :D

RB5_245 26 March 2005 04:04 PM

I asked this before :D

as i recall bob rawle is running about 370bhp on an sti8 or 9 with one of these. I think it would be a good project, maybe with ported headers and a trimmed turbine you could see near on 400...

I think this would make a very nicely driveable car, I get a bit fed up of the lag on the 05/06 sometimes. Having said that you could probably do a 2.5l conversion for not too much extra.

Dave

stevebt 26 March 2005 05:15 PM

so have you still got your 05/06 on then :) there may be a little lag on mine but when it comes on boost :D i get full 1.5 bar of boost at 3300rpm so its not too bad on mine

Floyd 26 March 2005 05:37 PM

Well I think the TD04 takes an age to spool up so anything later is a pain :(

F

RB5_245 28 March 2005 12:08 PM

Yup, still got it. Not driven the car since october though  :(

If you're happy with the 05/06 why not try an 06 turbine in the 05 housing, as far as I recall it has been done, a bit of machining is required and it's good for a bit of extra grunt.

BTW have you got a serious grudge against your engine internals? :D I don't think many people have pushed a standard engine so far!

Good luck,

Dave

This was the thread

JIM THEO 28 March 2005 02:58 PM

I just found in USA a Legacy twin scroll TD04 complete with all the required parts for WRX fitment!
What is this, is the first time I read about this turbo do you know if it fits in our cars?

just found out its a new up and down pipe, so ive just bought a VF35 instead for when mine is off

Floyd 28 March 2005 07:01 PM

Join the club Steve :D The VF35 is the new 'black' ;) And didn't I say about the up and DP's on post 2? ;)

F

stevebt 28 March 2005 07:48 PM

th VF35 is only temp for me say about a month or so then the td05/06 goes back on ;)

RB5_245 29 March 2005 04:11 PM

VF35  Strange choice. Can you post a comparison of the two when it's on?

stevebt 29 March 2005 04:55 PM

i will have no way to do tech comparisons but i can give my opinion if that helps :)

RB5_245 29 March 2005 05:02 PM

Well I know the specs of them both, but an opinion is always better imho. Numbers can't tell you 'feel'

Dave

Brun 29 March 2005 05:29 PM

Why's the VF35 a strange choice???? :)

Brun 29 March 2005 10:24 PM

The VF35's a small turbo compared to the one he's using now. As far as I know the best realistic power made from this turbo is about 330bhp, 360 has been claimed but doubtful....... (flamesuit on :D ).
