" but Weise's fellow pupils said he was teased because he always dressed in black."

When will people get it through their heads that tormenting and teasing people is not pleasant and there will be repucussions.

Whilst I agree with you, it doesn't justify his actions.

Think there's more important issues here than teasing somebody because they dressed in black.

No doubt it will be blamed on games again.

Not to mention horror films and Heavy Metal!!!!

Brendan Hughes 22 March 2005 04:14 PM

Here you go:

Relatives told the St Paul Pioneer Press that Weise was a loner who usually wore black and was teased by other kids. Relatives told the newspaper his father committed suicide four years ago, and that his mother was living in a Minneapolis nursing home because she suffered brain injuries in a car accident.

Ms Hegstrom described Weise as a quiet boy who was into goth culture, listened to heavy metal music, wore "a big old black trench coat" and "talked about death all the time".

I love it when this happens.
Millions upon millions of guns freely available, then for some reason they are shocked when lots of people get shot.
Then you get the "guns dont kill people people do" crew whining and moaning about their right to keep assault weapons for "home defence" cos you never know when you'll need to repel attackers who are not going to be scared by a hand gun, but are scared by a magazine fed machine gun.
Then the "Ban everything" brigade get up in arms.
The two go head to head for the next two years until some law is passed which appeases some (but usually not all).
Just in time for it to happen all over again. For that, please return to step one.

< Tries to look shocked and horrified and not totally desensitized by this kind of thing >

Oh

< fails to do the above >

Sorry, totally not suprised by this, and it is sad, but not exactly unexpected is it. The chap sounds a little bit depressed and had a few problems, so saw using a gun as a way to level the playing field a little. Extreme? quite possibly, unexpected? no, not really.

As said by others, no doubt Heavy Metal music and violent video games will be blamed as the cause of this, and TV and movies will be dragged over the coals as well. FFS, when are people going to realise that it's people doing these things and that the influences of things around us being used as the cause is just a substitue for looking at what the real cause of the issue might be.

M444GY 22 March 2005 06:25 PM

who they gonna blame this time then!

farmer1 22 March 2005 06:53 PM

"The shooter was intent on something... I think there was an intent to kill."
You don't say.

Not at all supprised, and to be honest for some reason I can't blame him.

I have seen pupils make other kids lifes utter hell, just for the fun of it. Perhaps in away they got what they diserved.

Yes I understand that shooting someone is a tad extreme, but for this kid he must have exhausted every option.

PeteT 22 March 2005 07:49 PM

They ought to bring back the death.....penalty..........oh.............hmmmmmm

Exhausted every option!?!?!?!?!?!

You are an utter moron.

I think farmer possibly meant that as a depressed kid, with no father and a seriously ill mother, suffering constant teasing and bullying, he felt he'd exhausted every option.

As a stable and relatively stress-free adult I'm sure you could come up with one that's less, erm, drastic.

Farmer, tell me about your mother.....

"Guns don't kill people, people do."

Yeah, but the gun kinda helps!

Interestingly, Canada has a similar percentage of gun ownership but nowhere near the levels of gun related crime as their neighbour. It just reaffirms my belief that the Americans are crazy! ;)

Markus 23 March 2005 03:03 PM

We have a few shootings here in Toronto, but nowhere near as many as in the USA. Why not? Probably because we're not all living in fear over here!

Yes there is probably one shooting at week that makes the news, but then what do you really expect in a large, multi-cultural city? Does it scare me? no? do I live in fear? no.

blueone 23 March 2005 03:46 PM

Amen - and people say I'm an idealistic hippy wierdo for saying NO ONE should be judged according to what they wear. The more we attach importance to clothes, the more kids (AND adults) will see it as a reason to pick on each other - and lord knows they don't need any more reasons......

However old you are you should be able to wear what makes you happy - kids copy what they see in the world around them.

Sadly I know I'm wasting my breath.......

That is basically the point I was trying to get across.

No need to be afraid of me.

You are an utter moron.
Quite possibly, or perhaps I just air my views in a moronic way.

Good point.. Time to find out how old farmer is and how he was treated at school..
I have had bad times and good times same as most kids really, got nothing to complain about as any stick I did get I probably deserved.

I am quite happy to take back what I give.

Farmer, tell me about your mother.....
Just the same as any mother to everyone else, to me special as are all my family.

Exhausted every option!?!?!?!?!?!
If you were being bullied to the point where you were willing to kill someone and yourself, what alternative would you choose.

That is as a distressed child rather then a level headed adult.
