Layercake

Any good?

Worth buying?

Get the impression it may appeal to me, as I like lockstock, snatch etc.

It's very good.

Excellent movie.

Neanderthal 10 March 2005 03:34 PM

Didn't think it was great to be honest. Not in Lock Stock's league definately.

Paulo P 10 March 2005 03:36 PM

Didn't hear good things about it but I loved lock stock and snatch so I'll wait to hear a few more views before I watch it. Maybe it wasn't my mates thing.

AudiMan 10 March 2005 03:38 PM

I've got Lock Stock and Snatch, two of my favourite all time movies, I've seen Layercake, but I wouldn't buy it to add to my collection.
Each to their own though.

Have read the book and it's certainly a great read. Not seen the film yet as it's not out here yet :(

If it's any way as good as the book then it'll be a little cracker. I have seen the trailers for it, and it is a Matthew Vaughan thing, so will be a little lock stock like, probably more of the feel of 'Mean Machine' thank lock sock though.

David_Wallis 10 March 2005 03:40 PM

not looking too good yet..

RussBoy 10 March 2005 03:46 PM

Best film of 2004 IMHO! It is a bit Lock Stock but 'cooler' and with some great black humour...

The scene in the cafe with "ordinary world" playing was awesome!!!

Scoobychick 10 March 2005 03:59 PM

I'll let you know, my copy should be arriving through the letterbox any day now..

PG 10 March 2005 04:42 PM

just finished watching it.
Not really to be compared to LS2SB or Snatch imo. A lot darker and a bit more intelligent.
Very good movie by all accounts.

Petem95 10 March 2005 05:00 PM

I loved it, and IMO its better than Lock Stock or Snatch.

Gets a 7.0 rating on IMDB which is very respectable. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0375912/

warrenm2 10 March 2005 05:17 PM

yep - better than LS2SB, more subtle, stronger film all round - deffo recommend it!!!!!

Sith 10 March 2005 05:39 PM

Very good film, very different from Lock Stock and Snatch. Layer Cake is played far more seriously.

'Welcome to the Layer Cake son'

Its a superb film, without doubt the best film I have seen in a while. Got the 2 disc DVD from CD-Wow on the day before release, well pleased :)

Definatly one of the best britsh films of recent years. Layer Cake is alot sharper and smarter than Lock Stock, Snatch et al. Very original too not your average East End ganster flick. The performances are brilliant, not your usual mocking of southerners which is the norm for these type of films. Its also got a cracking soundtrack!

I gave it 10/10 on IMDB.

David_Wallis 10 March 2005 11:20 PM

Ive got a voucher for HMV that I found on my desk at work from christmas  so thought I might purchase it for my collection.

Think I will get it tomorrow.. and possibly stay in with a donner pizza and a crate of stella.

Carl Davey 10 March 2005 11:40 PM

As above, it flies over the heads of Lock Stock and Snatch - both of which i love. Layer Cake appeals in a completely different way, it was certainly my film of 2004. I got it on Monday and had forgotten how good the sound track was. She Sells Sanctuary to kick off.

Scoobychick 11 March 2005 08:47 AM

Dammit, just got a very apologetic email from CD-Wow to say I won't be getting my 2 disc copy till next week due to them running out of stock, I blame DJ Dunk ;)

CooperS 11 March 2005 09:00 AM

I got it on Wednesday but can't watch it cos GT4 is "stuck" in my PS2 ;o)

Daz34 19 March 2005 11:07 AM

Watched it last night. Excellent film. Really good dialogue & quality acting. Not what I was expecting at all

Oh yeah....Sienna Miller in that underwear   :D
