What do you think of the protective mesh for the rad that i have fitted

Hi, just wondering what people think of the mesh that i have fitted to protect the radiator from being damaged by stones and that. I do not want it to look like a chav mobile!

m3matt 30 January 2005 04:20 PM

hmm, sorry, chav-mobile :) you got 'lexus' style rear-lights? :D

Tone Loc 30 January 2005 04:38 PM

Looks ok but I think it would look better black, and maybe a larger mesh.

Tony.

16vmarc 30 January 2005 04:42 PM

I wouldnt of done the scoop, i would have just meshed over the intercooler.

KEVWRX95 30 January 2005 04:54 PM

Tony.

One of my choices was using black mesh, but could not find any. I thought of painting it black as i could not find any black mesh, but decided to leave it as it was. Whole point of the mesh is to protect the rad so getting a larger mesh was a no go.

That was my first choice, but fitting in on the intercooler appeared a bit tricky so put the mesh where i did as it was easy.

Cheers thats one positive vote. Nice to have somethin a bit different to all the others and i don't thinks it's to chav. I just do not want to be associated with them in anyway!

elgordano 30 January 2005 06:19 PM

looks good...i like it.
it will look better once the shine has gone from the mesh.

Triple X 30 January 2005 06:33 PM

Looks ok but quite restrictive especially on the scoop, or is just the picture making it look restrictive?!

Picture makes it look that way, but there is plenty of air still getting through, have only caught one HUGE moth in it so far.

Scooby96 30 January 2005 07:40 PM

chavvy looking, sorry

jowl 30 January 2005 07:52 PM

I don't think it looks chav at all.

Think it looks good....thought I wouldn't do the scoop myself

scooterboy 01 February 2005 03:44 PM

Looks good to me , I have mesh on under the bumper but who ever fitted it didn't do a good job ! What did you secure it with i have a bug eye .
cheers

TaffyB 01 February 2005 04:47 PM

I like the meshing, but sorry do have to agree with some others. Think it would look better black, as it stands out a bit much.

+ a bit undecided on the scoop being done, but could look different black.

( + good effort on doing something different)

Secured at the top by bending it to fit around where the number plate is screwed on. Middle has a couple of tie raps and the base is bent over and resting on a piece of thick foam tape. Its a tight fit so does not move, hope this helps you.

Have never been to sure myself about the scoop, think i will try and find a way to mount it on the intercooler when i get chance.

borat52 03 February 2005 07:19 PM

I like the scoop, how did you fix it there, i have a my93, i'm assuming the scoop is the same as yours. I also like the grills, thumbs up:)

I had to take the scoop of the bonnet, then cut and bent the mesh around the inside of the scoop and then secured it with cable ties. Hope this helps you.

Its good to be different:thumb:

Danny B 03 February 2005 09:08 PM

Red Mica Classics are best left standard, there are hardly any on the road these days compared to the other colours.
Please undo what you have done and *never* mess with the car again in this cruel way ;)

former ex-red mica owner

Daz34 03 February 2005 09:31 PM

Sorry but very naff

Danbo 04 February 2005 12:43 AM

LOL Danny, you'll be pleased to hear that mine is still very much the way it was. ;)

This just makes it rarer. :)

eliko 04 February 2005 09:41 AM
