Changing big end bearings

Hi is it possible to change the big end bearings without taking the engine out?
ie just removing the sump.
Cheers,
Andy.

The design of the engine is such, that it needs to be completely stripped to replace the bearings.

The crank sits between the two block halves, and they need to be split.

Andy,

I'm sorry, I should have said that if you have a failed bearing, then the engine needs to be stripped any way.

Debrie from the failed bearing will be EVERYWHERE, and unless it is fully stripped and cleaned, chances are it will happen again, soon after.

Mark.
