Can you just swap the ECU on MY02 STI 7 without reprogramming the keys?
Hi all,
I used to have a MY97 which needed the keys programmed to match the ECU. Then a MY00 which didn't. Anyone know what the situation is for a STI 7 (bugeye)? (Type UK ) Hoping to swap my PPP ECU out for a standard one & then get ECUTEK'd :-) Cheers,John |

Yes it needs programming.I tried it on a MY02 STi a few months ago,and the car won't start!Had to get Bob Rawle out to sort it for me.

Many Thanks guys......bugger, hoping it wasn't so:-)
Thinking of buying another secondhand ECU but would like a way to test it. Ho hum.. Anyone else confirm this? Cheers,John |
So in theory, if you had two ecu's (one standard and the other remapped) with a set of programmed keys for each, you could just swap between the 2 as and when you wanted??

just about to swap the ecu on my MY99 will this need reprograming as well to match the keys?
Anyone know how much it will cost at a subaru dealer to do this or anyone else that can? |
MY99/00 does not need ECU programmed for keys. Just plugnplay.

Yep, takes 5mins on the MY99/00 and as Beastie says no need to reprogramme keys. Done it many a time on mine.

Any EcuTek dealer can resync your keys to a new ECU for you quite easily (although I lost connectivity to an ECU with a faulty immobiliser trying this once - luckily Subaru resync fixed!).
